Officiating Professional sports is exceedingly difficult to be right in much of the time, especially given the instant replay available today. I seriously doubt there are people typing on their computers, or watching the games anywhere who would be better than the current officials.

We waste too much time bemoaning the officiating in all sports. It all evens out in the end.

It is what it is. If players want to publicly call officials credibility and integrity into question, then they taint the sport, and should be disciplined/fined.

If they truly believe something underhanded is afoot, then they should pursue it through their clubs and the league, and prove it. If proven, then the league must act. If they can't prove it, then they need to STFU.

It's too convenient to blame officiating for our teams losing, or failure. Does it sometimes play a role? Yes it does, but that is the same for all teams in all sports.

And yes, I do agree that if officials badly screw something up that they should probably stand accountable if it is excessive, or in very poor form. But, this is inevitable. It's not going to change until we morph into infallible people.....

In all my years of umpiring little league I never made an incorrect call. Incorrect of course meaning something that is contrary to the rulebook. :P Judgment calls are judgment calls. That's why I don't really complain too much about officiating myself.

Only one problem though Howie, if officials are bullying players, and the league ALLOWS it, then it seems the only course a player may have is to take it to the media, right? I'm with you that bitching and moaning is detrimental, but the league wants to treat it's officials with the anonymity that the church afforded to child molesters. If they want to handle matters internally fine, then at least deal with them. Pretending they are dealt with ain't good enough.

I don't believe Burrows. If he is proven to be telling the truth, I'll change my opinion.

And let's leave horrific analogies like tolerence of molestation out of this topic. This belongs in another thread. Even if everything Burrows said is true, it doesn't equate.

I can't see any of this story holding any water. It's basically Burrow's word against the Refs'. Who does the ref work for? The NHL. Gary doesn't hand out any kind of punishment on those who work for him. It would mean that Gary is wrong.

And we all know... Gary is NEVER wrong. ;)

I was conveying a point, and I think most people agree that the league does hide things internally, and the point of this thread WAS the Burrows incident. It would have been easier if you just posted "he's lying" then. As for the analogy, let's save this "honest injun" crap(correctness meter) for the politicians and media. There was no intention of thread jacking or insulting anyone. One could just as easily say the same thing about sexist posts or others.

It was defeinitely a cheap call though...was it cross checking? Burrows barely touched the guy there.

Oh I totally agree, Los.

Burrows barely touched the guy and he gets sent to the sin bin. Lol he looked like he was going to rip the arm off the ref and eat it while serving his 2min!

He was totally right for calling out the refs on bullshit calls, but considering the hill he's going to have to climb now to prove this to the league that Auger was out to, "Get him", it’s going to be a tough one. Props to him if he can get his point across; even more so if he can get this ref fined or suspended for playing favorites.

Now, refs sometime blow calls and will admit it. Sometimes we even see them serving justice on a call that shouldn't have been one by "Evening out" the penalty with another one to the opposition. Just to balance things out. But in this case, I do stand behind Burrows and hope the league will do some digging and prodding because if Auger walks, who's to say this sort of thing won't happen again?

No statement concerning political correctness involved. To equate something on that scale to an "allegation" of this nature is being overly dramatic.

And no discipline for Auger...what a surprise.

There was a reason why Bettman was "heavily involved." This league is a friggin joke

If Auger did say something and called that bullshit penalty he should get into some trouble. But Burrows reaction backfired...he should have been more patient about it.

Oh man does this just make the NHL look like a joke.

You have refs blowing calls fire them and get new refs, stop protecting your damn officials for their bullshit calls.
