The Blues have traded Erik Johnson and Jay McClement to Colorado for Stewart and Shattenkirk. Draft picks also included.

The only conceivable reason is to acquire Johnson. Ideally, he'll help patch up the D, which has been absolutely horrid this season.

Now that's what I like to see, BIG TRADES! I love them!

Erik Johnson is far and away the best player in that deal, the Avs GM has not "lost his mind", he has improved his teams blue line significantly.

I disagree because of this, Johnson has not lived up to his potential and McClement just another 3rd/4th liner. Meanwhile the Blues get by far the best young power forward (Stewart) before he broke his hand and a really good young puck moving dman in Shattenkirk. IMO St Louis won this trade by a landslide.

The Blues didn't get burned but there is no way they won this deal. Johnsons great, I watched him closley during the olympics and he's right on course to be a 25+ minute per game Norris contender. I'll take that trade anyday

What in the hell? Wow. What a blockbuster! Surprised that the Avs traded Stewart AND Shattenkirk. This is huge.

Remember when Eric Brewer was supposed to be the next big thing. So was Erik Johnson, and they got rid of both.

Both Stewart and Shattenkirk were productive in their Blues debut, helping to deliver a 9-3 spanking to the Ducks. Stewart had two power play goals.

Yep and St Louis' GM is now laughing at both teams.

You must be thinking of the other Johnson (Jack) LA because I honestly do not see a "Norris" ever be won by Erik Johnson.

Hell yeah Eric Johnson has got Norris potential written all over him, might take him a few more years to expand his game but he's got all the tools. I think the Avs won that deal but you know how it is in hockey, it takes years to figure out how good the players actually are.

As for the Blues, I think their team president is a prideful ex-goalie who is butt hurt over giving up too much for Halek, and is trying to blame his defense men and not his goalies or coaches for their teams shitty defense. It's foolish to trade a defense man as good as Johnson, unless you're getting a landslide win of a deal.

I like Johnson. I think this is a fair trade that benefits both teams equally.

Only the fact that it's a 2 for 1 makes this deal equal.

Johnson is a good defensemen, Colorado needed that. Stewart's a good offensemen. St. Louis needed that.

Fair trade, sir.
