Because no one cares in Atlanta, at least some people care in Phoenix.

Because the NHL didn't spend a bajillion dollars already to keep the Thrashers in Atlanta.

The Thrashers ownership group has been trying to sell for YEARS. The NHL already knows there are no options there to have someone buy that team and keep them in Georgia.

That's why they're easier to move.

(And Skyline, I'm pretty sure nobody cares in Phoenix OR Atlanta. )

I meant as an ownership type, if no one cared in Phoenix, why is there this huge debate and lawsuits and stuff about them staying or leaving.

If no one cared one bit, you would have seen them leave by now. Not people fighting to keep the team there.

Simple.

$$$$

The NHL has been giving Atlanta loans for at least 6 years, possibly longer. It's to the point that the only way they're going to be able to recoup that money is through a sale, and they know a sale will involve a move because they've been trying to sell it locally forever.

In Phoenix, they've gotten Glendale to cover some of their losses, so they're willing to stick it out a little longer to get a buyer who will keep them there. They shot themselves in the foot on this from the get go by letting Moyes put the team in bankruptcy without their 'permission', and wanting to cock block Balsilie at every turn, so that's why they're dealing with it.

This has nothing to do with one market being better than the other, and wanting the team to stay more. Both markets suck, and both markets in general don't care if the team goes. It's the NHL's financial interests at work here.

I never said anything about the markets, I'm stating there are people who care enough to keep Phoenix there and that's why it dragged out like this, and it doesn't seem like there are any of those high up people in Atlanta.

The only reason the Glendale city council wants the Coyotes to stay put is they're afraid of the economic impact.

personally, id move a team to winnipeg (or seattle if seattle decides to build a new arena.. which.. come on! do it!) and quebec city or hamilton. thats my NHL master plan. if those two teams move... florida is on the clock.

What is your basis for assuming there are 'people' who care in Phoenix? Aside from some small (and embarrassing) rallys, there has been no outpouring of community support. The only reason this has dragged out is because of the NHL's and Glendale's financial interests.

I'd be okay with either of those. Not sure what the level of hockey interest is in Seattle, but I know the Mariners and Seahawks aren't exactly juggernauts in terms of NW popularity. A favorable schedule to avoid conflicts with their games could work out really well for a Seattle franchise.

the thunderbirds do well for a WHL team. i know the sonics were beloved and seahawks do well. the MLS sounders franchise does VERY well.

seattles kinda a funny town, pretty intellectual, from what i hear.

Well how are the Thunderbirds (WHL) received? If the Thunderbirds draw well enough, I'd think a feasibility study should definitely be in order. I'd love for there to be a badass Seattle/Vancouver rivalry.

Side note - I love the Thunderbirds' logo:

I actually have friends in Seattle. They're bandwagon sports fans though and don't know dick about anything.

I feel sorry for the Thrashers fans because they have been screwed from day one from unfortunate occurrences. The Stefan incident, the Heatley/Snyder incident, Hossa requesting a trade after not even 3 seasons/Their franchise player jumping ship. They never really had a chance to get anything going, Phoenix at least started with an established NHL team.

I feel bad for the Sabres fans living in Atlanta...I'd be soo mad if they moved Tampa because I wouldn't get to see the Sabres at least two times a year.

Seattle would make a great hockey city. I wish there was a way for them to get that done.

Never been to Portland, but I hear Portland could potentially sustain a team too.
