Heatley and Snyder were just two young guys having a thrill ride, I''l bet.

If Snyder's family understands what happened; has empathy for Dany Heatley, and forgave him, then so should the rest of us.

Heaters situation was really hellish unfortunate. I can't stand him as a hockey player and wish for nothing but the worst for the Sharks. But looking at that whole situation in Atlanta, Snyder’s family can tell Danny boy that, "It's ok, it was an accident" all they wish. That event will stay with him for the rest of his life. Not saying it would be any better, but if he were legally intoxicated, at least he could claim that. All he can say in this situation is that had he been level headed and in control of his situation, Snyder may still be playing today.

Very unfortunate. RIP Snyds. :(

I believe the spot in which the accident occurred is a curved road in a residential area with a speed limit of 35 mph. If Heatley was going 80, that's the equivalent of going almost 150 mph on the highway. Which is not something "every one of us has done."

I don't really care that Heatley was remorseful or that Snyder was his best friend. The fact of the matter is that he was being absurdly stupid and tragically Snyder had to suffer the consequences.

However, the fact that the Snyder family forgives Heatley says a lot, and if they can forgive him, everyone else should probably let it go (as much as I hate Heatley both as a hockey player and for allowing his idiocy to take someone's life).

im sorry phil, but i cant get behind tossing a dan snyder jersey on the bench to remind heatley of his giant misstep. that goes beyond being a fan, and that goes beyond crossing a line. i wouldnt doubt for a moment that the arena security would ban you for a lifetime for that action, and maybe an NHL wide ban. you dont want that, and dany shouldnt suffer like that for reckless driving, something weve all done.

edit: i did a mapquest of the road, lenox road. its mainly a straight road with a few subtle curves. i cant pinpoint the exact location of the crash, the south end is all residential and with the few subtle curves. it doesnt appear to be a death trap driving at high speeds, but perhaps heatleys speed exceeded that.

i also found that experts cant pin point his exact speed, but place it between 55 mph, and 82. for the sake of argument, im going to go in the middle and say 68 MPH.

I agree.

OK, my bad.

And yes, knowing the speed (how I didn't know the actual speed before) does affect my view of the situation.

I used to be in the same position as you. I thought he was driving at over 130 MPH.

As it turns out, he was doing something no different than I've done with friends in my car on multiple occasions.

I also thought he was more intoxicated than he actually was.

It doesn't matter how fast or slow you drive, you can be killed in a 10mph crash.

He had a Lambo, so of course he wanted to go fast, but supercars aren't always the safest things in the world.

Check out that crash, from the stuck speedo, the speed was only about 55 MPH at the time of the crash most likely.
