I took a shot like that playing intramural football in college. I was going to recover a fumble and some lardass fell on my leg almost exactly like that. My knee ligaments and muscles hurt like a bitch for a few days, but I was otherwise fine.

Like I've always said, just cuz I hate a guy to death doesn't mean that I seriously wish ill fortune upon him. I may not be able to stand Sidney Crosby, but he's good for the game and to see a superstar taken down for life by a borderline hoodlum would be the ultimate black eye for the sport. Especially since Downie only got 2 minutes for roughing.

I bet Crosby won't be at practice tomorrow from this knee stretching.

That just looks like an honest mistake to me. Looks like Downie was trying to catch him from behind to win back the puck, and their legs just got tangled up and Sid's leg happened to be in an awkward position as they both went down...a slew foot gone horribly wrong at the most.

Watch it again. Downie begins to lock his leg behind Crosby's knee and force him to the ice long after Sid had relinquished possession of the puck. This had nothing to do with trying to gain possession of the puck, otherwise Downie wouldn't have been anywhere near Crosby. His only intent was to injure.

I don't want to defend Downie in any way but for me it didn't look intentionally. It seems that he tries to slow Crosby down and push him in the boards and then falls on Crosby's knee...If he did that intentionally he shouldn't be allowed to play hockey ever again.

Wow. Not a big Crosby fan, but that's ridiculous. There's no place for that. I hope someone pounds the crap out of him. Or just takes out HIS leg.

Is Downie known as a dirty player? I don't know much about him.

During a September 25, 2007, preseason game against the Ottawa Senators, Downie was involved in an incident in which he checked unsuspecting left winger Dean McAmmond into the boards, while Downie's feet were off the ice. Due the extent of McAmmond's injury and that he had left his skates in the hit, Downie was suspended by the NHL for 20 games three days later for deliberate injury to McAmmond, as they were cracking down on any play resulting in a head injury. [3] To date, it is the fifth longest suspension given by the league.

Sure it was a dirty play but that little punk was rolling around like a damn soccer player.
If Downie deserves a suspension, Crosby deserves an Oscar.

downie was also traded from his OHL team after a disgusting hazing incident. no one knows the exact reason, but it was rumoured it was some sick sodomy hazing ritual.

You must not play hockey. He went for a knee on knee for sure. Rub Cros out along the board and make the knee to knee contact much like Franzen in last years SCF. Downie faling and twisting Crosby's leg was unintentional.

Crosby may have embellished it but what could have happened would have been catastrophic, he shouldnt be overlooked just because the situation didnt go all bad.

That is what we call a "bone to bone" lock in grappling, and it's frowned upon even in MMA, there's no place for that in hockey...PERIOD.

What that type of hold is meant to do, atleast in MMA is place your bone, against another bone, connected to a joint, and leverage that bone to cause damage to the joint, and the attached ligaments. In that case he could have easily torn an MCL or PCL.

Totally dirty play, when I first saw it, I though, oh legs got tangled, after watching the close ins, nope, he drove through on the joint, and could have done some serious damage. Bush league, Downie needs atleast 30-40 games for that, without pay.

im sure crosbys leg still hurt like a bitch. and i wasnt concerned for his leg breaking, but his ACL, PCL, MCL tearing. he likely wouldnt return the same player. its a cowardly act by downie, and frankly, 15 games sounds right.

How can you embellish a slew foot? Please tell.
