Kovie wants money, not a Cup.

I don't want that on my team.

Oh, now apparently Simon Gagne is off the Kings' radar, too.

I wonder what LA's salary budget is.

They have $12M in cap space and some sizable holes to fill.

Although, they may also want to be careful as Doughty & Jack Johnson are RFAs next summer....

yeah, I think they may let it hang with 10M or so at the end of this year, because both of those guys could easily command 6.5M+

I mean hell, if Jeff Finger and Jordan Leopold are getting 3M+ whats that say about the market for top notch defenders.

And with Handzus and Williams departing, they'd have the necessary cap to extend both players. Let a couple other expensive UFAs ditch to afford extending Wayne Simmonds (if he has another great season, he's gonna get offer-sheeted like a mother next season), while calling up youngsters like Brayden Schenn to fill holes.

But, like it's been said, LAK is out.

Doughty might get the Duncan Keith treatment.

But, I don't see JJ breaking the bank. He's a guy that has a ton of potential but has never put it together at the NHL level.

He looks a lot better with a Team USA sweater on than he ever has with a Kings sweater on.

He is a career -57 and has been -15, -18, & -19 the past three years.

I can't see a team backing up the Brinks truck next summer unless he has a massive break out year this year.

Plus, with the lack of offer sheets this summer, I wouldn't expect them to be flyign around next summer.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-kin ... 8803.story

Quote:
Attracted by Kovalchuk's production and electrifying style, the Kings reportedly offered him $63 million over 12 years, an annual cap hit of $5.25 million, or $84.5 million over 13 years, an annual cap hit of $6.5 million.

Several sources familiar with the situation but not authorized to talk publicly said Kovalchuk hasn't compromised on an average annual value of $10 million, close to the NHL-leading $9.538-million average Washington's Alexander Ovechkin earns in a 13-year deal.

The Kings say they can't accommodate Kovalchuk, retain their core and bring in the support players necessary to become a consistent Stanley Cup contender.

Kovy is on crack.

6.5 million dollars, I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Apparently Philly is considering waiving Gagne to make room for Zherdev.
In what universe is Zherdev > Gagne, even with injuries considered? Gagne is a timely scorer, as proven by his output in the Boston series.
Zherdev may be a great talent but he's a big floater.
I can't provide a link from my phone, but this was on the free agency blog on NHL.com. In the same post it was reported that Boston and Buffalo are also interested in signing Zherdev.

I really doubt this is the guy Leopold is suggesting.
