I actually think an American team vs a Canadian team may be worth trying because who knows, maybe people would give a shit when they feel that their countries pride is on the line, no substitute fr the Olympics but something.

That was my reasoning, too, but again, does Joe College Football give a shit. And after all, that's the kind of demographic the NHL is shooting for.

Personally, a Bruins/Habs WC would have been INTENSELY more compelling than Bruins/Flyers.

I gotta say, the last one was boring as shit. I couldn't quite stay focused on it. Me and my friends ended up playing street hockey for most of the game except the end.

I’ll probably watch it, and I think the WC is great for the NHL, but I’m not a fan of it personally.
The ice is generally bad which causes delays, and eventually the bad ice will lead to injuries that might not otherwise happen.
If it snows there will be delays.
There are delays associated with changing ends in the 3rd period.
I think it’s idiotic when they put these games on baseball fields. The seating configuration is crazy for a hockey game. Besides you can get so many more people in a football stadium.
Sooner or later one of these games is going to get postponed due to rain, snow or if it’s too warm, and that will be a disappointing mess for everyone.
It’s too bad the Wild suck and very few people care about them, because if there should be a WC anywhere in the US, it’s in Minnesota. However, I don’t think this will happen until they get better and more interesting as a team.

It's too bad Detroit already played in Chicago, because I could easily imagine Michigan's Big House selling out all 105K+ seats.

No, that's the Spartans. I'm talking the University of Michigan.

Michigan Stadium, aka The Big House. Capacity: 109,901.

look at it now.

luxury boxes!

also, thats the listed capacity, phil. they routinely get 112,000 in there.

side note. michigan stadium has footings to expand the stadium to 220,000 people. think about it.

It's too bad ticket sales are no longer open to the public (for The Big Chill) - I wanted to get a pair but never had the money. Now I don't have a job to pay for the trip either :(

I think any of these would make interesting match ups;

Minnesota vs Dallas (in North Stars uniforms)
N.Y Rangers vs Toronto
Boston vs Carolina (in Whalers uniforms)
Montreal vs Buffalo

I'll be starting up a post for the 2010 Heritage Classic tomorrow, since that's when the presser will be held.

I don't think Carolina can legally wear Whalers unis. Pretty sure the City of Hartford still owns all the trademarks and whatnot.

I'd love that matchup, but I'd be a giant hypocrite for supporting it since I'm against the Penguins already being in another Winter Classic.
