Honestly, it was a bitch move but I figured a team would do that anyways.

It was reported the Sharks were going to claim him as well but the Isles obviously had waiver position on them.

From what I understand, if he doesn't report, he can't play anywhere else this year. Looks like he was just trying to get a cup.

While I find his comments to be hilariously honest, I think he's a douchebag for doing that to a team. That could be Buffalo, or Edmonton or Montreal (because FUCK QUEBEC) in any other year. Just seems like a bad precedent to set in a league that strives for parity and a league that has trouble growing its fanbase.

The NYI commentators showed a quote from him saying that he would only play for a team that is in playoffs and since the NYI are not, he refuses to play.

I used to like Nabby, but after this I am more inclined to think he is a classless douchebag.

im not disagreeing with you. its bullshit. you sign the contract, you play. but they cant ban him from the league, just suspend him, with the end being on his watch.

with the PA supposedly ready to go to war again once this CBA expires, i dont think now is the time to ban a player. of course, the two have nothing to do with each other, but the PA is stubborn as shit, and i just wouldnt piss them right now.

They can't, he can only go through waivers once a year.

So why has a guy like Patrick O'Sullivan been on waviers twice this year by 2 different teams???

It's because of the terms of the deal that he signed.

Quote:
The contract Nabokov signed with the Red Wings includes a no-move clause and states that he cannot be put back on waivers without his permission. Also, he is ineligible to play in American Hockey League this season due to league rules regarding free agents coming from Europe after Decemeber 15.

Apparently Nabokov hung up on GM Garth Snow when he called him:

Snow said when he identified himself on the phone, Nabokov immediately hung up.

Snow finally talked to Nabokov on Sunday and was told that Nabokov didn't realize who he was speaking to when abruptly ending the call. Snow relayed the story to Nabokov's agent, Don Meehan, on Saturday and was told that he would discuss the matter with his client.

"He called me back 15 or 20 minutes later," Snow said of Meehan. "Donnie said, ‘He didn't know it was you. He was on two or three different phones, and people from the media were calling him.' I just gave him the benefit of the doubt and I said to Donnie, ‘Do me a favor. When he gets done with all his phone calls, give him my number and get back to me."

Lovely. That moron just needs to play, its only a one year deal. and its not even technically a full season, its less than half now, so what he plays, if he does well enough during the trade deadline he can ask for a trade, or when FA hits he can just sign with another team.

Apparently being kicked to the curb when anyone could have had him wasn't enough of a wakeup call.

Contended for the Vezina once, but never won it. Was prone to soft goals when the Sharks hit the playoffs.

He's been good. But not good enough to act entitled.

Then again, are there any players in the NHL good enough to act entitled?

gotcha. i think his failures in the playoffs lie on his teams as well. i dont know what to think about this situation. i mean, you sign a contract, you adhere to the rules of the league. i always liked nabby but hes making it a little hard right now.

Operative word here is 'was'.

If he was such a worthwhile commodity, he wouldn't have been playing in Russia.
