I think Chara knew what he was doing. Seems like a classic instance of playing borderline to rattle a guy's cage and circumstances producing a horrific result.

I really don't think so. It would require a great amount of awareness to realize what part of the player's bench boards your on to realize where the divider is, and that type of check is made all the time. Chara was looking to put him in the bench, and unfortunately, made a bad judgment along the lines of where he was on the play. Just very unfortunate.

even if he did, it's not suspendable and it's one of those freak things. maybe the nhl will put some foam on that corner now.

he didn't even hit hard. it was more of what doc emerick would call a "rub out" or "erased"

Either way, people ought to be rooting for a suspension seeing as how we play Boston Thursday.

Yeah, I'm really not worried about Chara being suspended.

The first thing I thought of when I saw that was Kevin Everett... :(

Honestly, foam or no foam if you hit a solid object, it's gonna hurt. The NHL should be smart and take out the glass and dividers completely. Have no divider between the benches besides a guy there. You want to make the game safer, take out those harmful areas. So what about the trash talk between benches. You want to make sure nothing happens, put a cop also with the inside the glass guy.

that glass is so the scoreboard operator/timekeeper doesnt get hurt/the scoreboard remote software doesnt get damaged. thats expensive shit (and fun to play with)

its weird, because when ennis got hit into the corner glass by the sabres tunnel tonight, i thought to myself, "man, you never see a guy ridden face first into that"... an hour later...

Move it then, place all that shit on the penalty box side where there are doors to get into it.

It's not very big stuff, or recess the box further back so they don't have sudden impacts of players.

Lose two seats to make the players safer. Or simply move it across the ice if needed. Or move that equipment into a booth in the 200 level.

Boston's Johnny Boychuk has been very deserving of a suspension since taking Vanek out of the playoff series last year. He has been very unnoticeable against us this season. I had hoped Kaleta or McCormick can return the favor to him as suspensions for goons are not handed down in the NHL.
