I like the divisional playoffs also, but they can't do that with three divisions unless they have a bye round. A bye round would suck though, either giving a good team too much rest or possibly letting them get rusty for two weeks.

If they go back to two divisions - say a NE (8 teams) and SE (7) in each - then I'd like to see the top four in each battle it out like the old days. That format would leave room for two expansion teams to fit nicely into the set-up down the road.

This is what Hockey Night in Canada was talking about last night.

Why is Pittsburgh the only White team? Are they that desperate to plug in Crosby or the Pittsburgh name?

because pittsburgh would effectively join the north east. i think thats why. and it would pull them away from their traditional division rivals.

I could see them moving CBJ to the eastern conference more so than Detroit

According to Adam Proteau of THN, Detroit looks like the favourite for East rellocation. Proteau reported that Mike Illitch (owner of the Red Wings) was "promised" by Gary Buttman that his team would have first dibbs on any east-west moves. The article didn't state how long ago Illitch was promised this, but they probably will be the ones to move. THN also suggested that Detroit should replace Boston in the North East Division.

I hate the idea of divisional playoffs. What happens if there is a weak team making the playoffs in one division??

interesting....Wonder if that promise was made before the blue jackets were in the league.

THN wouldn't have reported it if it was.

To me that's dumb if they do that. I would like to see them in the same division with the caps and Philly.

I don't know. I don't like having divisions that are unequal. Just rubs me the wrong way. Take 2 teams out of the league, and have 7 apiece and I'm fine with that.

Anyone know when the League is going to make the decision? I think they have to do it before the regular season is up to allow for scheduling.

A few months, but I really don't like how jacked up things will get with Detroit in the east. Why can't the NHL just let the map decide this stuff...too simple?

I don't want Detroit in the East either. They aren't the most logical choice, and if it ends up being them, it'll only be due to Mike Illitch giving Bettman a hummer (or more).
