Either way, people ought to be rooting for a suspension seeing as how we play Boston Thursday.

Boston's Johnny Boychuk has been very deserving of a suspension since taking Vanek out of the playoff series last year. He has been very unnoticeable against us this season. I had hoped Kaleta or McCormick can return the favor to him as suspensions for goons are not handed down in the NHL.

That'd be the shit...

I don't know if Chara should get suspended...It seemed Pacioretty was unlucky.

i hope not. some players come back, some dont. eric cole did. i expect max to be back next year at some point. maybe im just optimistic.

as far as the hit, i dont think it was dirty, but it was a stupid play by chara.

C4 cervical vertebrae to be precise.

Also, this picture may change some minds toward Chara knowing what he was doing
Image

I was originally of the mind that it was reckless but not dirty, but now that I've seen his hand on Max Pac's face...throw the book at the giant fuck

I don't think his hand is in his face. His underarm is pushing his shoulder and in this picture it looks like he is pushing his face into the divider.

even if he did, it's not suspendable and it's one of those freak things. maybe the nhl will put some foam on that corner now.

there is foam. if there wasnt....

Honestly, foam or no foam if you hit a solid object, it's gonna hurt. The NHL should be smart and take out the glass and dividers completely. Have no divider between the benches besides a guy there. You want to make the game safer, take out those harmful areas. So what about the trash talk between benches. You want to make sure nothing happens, put a cop also with the inside the glass guy.

that glass is so the scoreboard operator/timekeeper doesnt get hurt/the scoreboard remote software doesnt get damaged. thats expensive shit (and fun to play with)

its weird, because when ennis got hit into the corner glass by the sabres tunnel tonight, i thought to myself, "man, you never see a guy ridden face first into that"... an hour later...

Move it then, place all that shit on the penalty box side where there are doors to get into it.

It's not very big stuff, or recess the box further back so they don't have sudden impacts of players.

Lose two seats to make the players safer. Or simply move it across the ice if needed. Or move that equipment into a booth in the 200 level.

well, actually, in most arenas, it is in between the penalty boxes.

Then take that damn glass out of there then.

C4 vert, he should recover fine then. Might just make a slight head mobility issue like with Cole.

OK, maybe he didn't make contact with the face primarily or at all. Bottom line is he knew the open space over the benchs would end and did not relent. He drove Max Pac into the glass knowing that eventually they were going to make contact with the glass.

hey i didnt design the arena! hahaha. i have no idea why its there, but i assume its there for a reason. i dont debate that perhaps they should remove it. but that same situation exists on the end of each bench as well.

That's true Mike, I forgot about the end of the benches.

I say, take out the dividers of the benches, and at the end put like a foot of cotton pillows on it.

clean hit. you can't play one side of the ice different than another. 999/1000 times the guy ends up in the bench upside down. there are risks in a contact sport. at speeds like that no player can possibly plan that outcome and there's no way a player would try to hurt someone in that badly of a way. do dome guys want to give a dude a concussion? sure. do i think anyone playing hockey legitimately wants to try to kill someone? no.

bertuzzi didn't try to kill moore, chara wasn't trying to kill this guy.

don't suspend him.

He drove him right into the divider. Chara has been in the league for a long time. He knows he's bigger and stronger than everyone and he knows full well where the bench divider is. Him and Pacioretty also have a history of not liking each other very much and have had their own confrontations here or there. Chara should be thrown out for at least the rest of this season and the playoffs.

I think you're really pushing it to say the NHL has the balls to suspend someone for such a duration. I am surprised although by how borderline everyone it making this out to be.

A fractured vertebra is pretty serious. But you're probably right, the NHL even considering that as a punishment is a pipe dream at best. Chara should be held responsible because (as Bob McKenzie said) it was still an illegal play (it was interference) and it resulted in a serious injury. Chara knows the rules, and damn well knows where they were on the ice. But we all know the NHL will not do much, if anything, to punish this hit.

Yeah, me too.
Chara got a penalty for the hit.
Chara got thrown out of the game for the hit.
It was dirty as fuck. Don't fixate on how much contact or the nature of the contact. The fact is that the puck was no longer within 30 feet of either player. It wasn't unfortunate or weird or unintentional. It was LATE. It was so late that Max had no expectation of being hit, and that's why it was so bad.
Hell yeah, Chara should be suspended.
