Looks like you can start the official unofficial thread Phil. This topic certainly deserves it. I should still be up at 2.

People are actually downplaying the announcement, with Lombardi saying he's merely flying in to meet with the Kings' staff face-to-face. I say, how many free agents met with their prospective future bosses face-to-face this offseason? Plus, it's not just some schmoe with a blog - it's a dude from SportsNet.

So, I'll just exercise some discretion and wait until it's official.

It just wouldn't surprise me if he went there for the PR, especially after MeBron-gate. Plus the way they were, "out, then back in". Kovy's agent finally called back after he played hard ball(and the King management played hard ball too). If they have the cap room, I expect them to get him.

I fully expect Kovalchuk to take their offer of 7 million so they can resign their key RFA's next year.

That is the only way I see him signing is if he takes a 6-7 Million dollar paycheck.

Kings say they are out.

Wtf is this. In and out, in and out, in and out, in and out. When will the orgasm put an end to this madness?

It's going to be very anticlimactic, somebody will be paid, and we as a society will all feel dirty about it.

The Habs have re-signed league-renowned piece of shit and anti-Kaleta device Maxim Lapierre (not to be confused with Flyer penalty-killer and toothless wonder Ian Laperriere). It's a one-year deal.

Blue Jackets re-sign Jarred Boll and Senators sign Swiss Olympic hero Roman Wick (I knew he'd be in North America this upcoming season).

I know, he's gonna be pretty good. I'll be keeping an eye on him.

Also, the Flyers have signed Carbomb to a one-year deal. Let's see how bad this fucks them, given they've only got $500K or so in cap space. they're already almost $1.5M over the cap.

One more thing, Stuuuuuu Barnes just signed an extension to remain an assistant coach in Dallas next season.

Carcillo's contract puts the Flyers up to $2.497M over the cap and gives them a 23-man roster.

Do they understand the rules and restrictions in the CBA about these things?

Are you referring to the rule that lets a team spend 10% over the cap ceiling during the offseason to allow for wheeling and dealing?

Yea, I'll bet they do.

Yea, I'll bet they do.

Although, their team tends to ignore the rules in the regular season, so maybe they'll just keep spending.

From Helene Elliot of the LA Times:
"not confirmed yet but hearing that Kovalchuk to Kings is dead, this time for good. the reason: Kovalchuk wouldn't compromise on money."

So, now what?
