after watching the videos of teh characters and seeing them in 3d my opinion has softened towards the project. its still fairly bad with terrible designs but i understand it that tiny bit better. instead of releasing the stupid action images they should have done a character profile set up with a front, side and back view of the characters with the info off to the side all professional CIA lookng

Ottawa was released today and it doesnt totally suck!

the wand should have been a sword and the shield bigger but overall it suckes less then 90% of the other heroes put out.

I love the part of the article when they discussed the deal with the NFL.

Quote:
Stan Lee, the legendary former president of Marvel Comics, joined the effort about seven years ago. They first took the idea to the NFL, only to walk away from a deal with the league, according to Baratta. The reason? The NFL wanted to cast active players as the superheroes, something the creators felt had obvious pitfalls because you can't always anticipate the mistakes and poor judgments of real people.

"At the time," recalled Baratta, "they wanted to center it around Michael Vick."

Whoops.

you would think they could at least try here. this was probably the last one and they ran out of ideas (even the bad ones were used...see toronto)

The Red Wing is the worst. It looks like a cheap transformer imitation from China. Hilarious.
EDIT: ...and they forogot about the original 6 batch.

The Red Wing and The Thrasher are failed Transformers

The Canadien, The Blackhawk and The Avalanche are failed Iron Man armors

The Panther and The Coyote are 75-90% ripped from existing characters.

He ripped his own characters in the first place, there is only so many ideas to use, especially if you need 30 new superheros.

Of course his drawing style will still be the same too.

There are some of these guys that are okay, I mean, I wouldn't knock them too bad for a few...but the rest? Ugh. The pay check for these artists is probably pretty big and to throw out canned characters like this is pretty lame. The powers are repeated a lot and how many of these guys have titanium claws, teeth, armor etc? I can understand having similarities to existing characters but what i can't understand is how damn lame some of them are. Also....if you can't draw well....DON'T! Hahaha!

They need "Stick-Figure-Dude" He could be the Maple Leafs guy because he is so easily broken and beaten down.

Basically the NHL has teamed up with a comic book guru to create a comic book hero of each team. I'm assuming they will be create some sort of storyline to go along with it. Obviously someone in marketing is a comic book geek who thought this was a great idea...I personally think it'll bomb.

I don't wanna bash Stan Lee. Oh wait, yes I do, I mean we are the Buffalo Sabres and yet there's no bison incorporated into our team and it looks like the LA Kings Guardian has a bigger sword....WTF Stan? The "Die by the Blade" mascot is better than his conception.

I mean the Bruins guardian is a werebear...why not make the Sabres a Bison that wields a savage looking sabre? Some savage looking Minotaur like dude would have been the obvious thing...but I guess Niagara Falls tie-in was needed.

And we have a lame battery pack thing...what about being a ground based leader of a thundering herd?

Not as lame as the Canadiens Guardian who, "Makes all his teammates better."

I thank him for the X-men and such, but he really screwed the pooch on our guardian.

But come on...any bad guy who's thwarted by a little wind, is not that bad of a badguy. Its like the bad monster in Van Helsing dying by falling onto a chaise lounge.

My Sabres Guardian would have been a Minotaur with a savage serrated sabre that's lashed to his hand with hockey tape. His shield is made up of assorted hockey equipment that he's taken off foes that he's felled. Of course I had this idea for a comic book version of Ryan Miller where he's got red "Warduke" type eyes, steam snorts are coming out from under his mask, his goalie pad are sewn from pieces of other teams torn uniforms. His hockey stick is an Eqyptian Korpish Sabre and his blocker is made up of helmets, bones, and assorted other things. (I just can't draw.) ...then again I like Molly Hatchet, so go figure.
