He was just so damn impressive in the post-season for the caps. Hopefully he wasn't a one hit wonder.... It'll also be interesting to see this guy in net... The 6-foot-3 MONSTER led his Swedish Elite League to the title last season, allowing just 14 goals in 13 playoff games with five shutouts. The majority of observers say he's the real deal, and the additions of Francois Beauchemin(notes), Mike Komisarek(notes) and Garnet Exelby(notes) should mean he won't play behind the collective sieve Vesa Toskala(notes) played behind last season. Speaking of Toskala (and, let's face it, sieves), Gustavsson still has to beat out the veteran goalie for the starting job. In that regard, he's in the same spot of Varlamov ... except only one of them can reasonably expect to continue playing past Game No. 82. |

Seeing as how The Monster just had heart surgery, it will be interesting to see how long it takes him to get back on the ice. |

There's a lot of promising looking first year players, to say the least. Still, we never really know until we see them play for a while, if they are indeed the real deal. |
