• One could read into the training camp invite of Maxim Afinogenov(notes) thusly: The Atlanta Thrashers added Nik Antropov(notes), attempted to add Nik Zherdev and now could be adding the former Buffalo Sabres enigma to their locker room, while at the same time attempting to convince Ilya Kovalchuck that Atlanta's his franchise of choice. Coincidence, we're sure. That said, Ben Wright nails it: Low risk, high reward for the Thrash and Max. [Blueland Blog]

Max needs friends...I understand he's close with Tallinder and Hecht.

If he goes there, playing with Iyla would do wonders for his career.

It should tell the Max apologists something since his only sniff at an NHL contract is a camp invite from the Trashers. Even if he stays in the league (at dirt cheap) he won't break 30 pts - even if he leaches secondary assists off of Kovalchuk goals.

They should invite Miro Satan while they're at it.....

ironically, i know you were kidding, but i heard from someone at LGS who did player interviews that max and kotalik HATED each other. well, more or less kotalik hated max, i guess max didnt hate anyone. but towards the end he just didnt gel with the team and was odd man out. take it with a grain of salt.

I hope Max gets that contract, does well and hands us our ass when they meet us. WE wouldn't deserve it, as fans, but the Max haters and Lindy and management would. I miss Max...

Max to Atlanta would be interesting. i can see that working out well for him. Then the casual hockey fans will say "Buffalo shouldnt have gotten rid of him." i can even see a bunch of Sabre fans saying that too. no one on these boards specifically (we all have more sense) but on the "real" boards.

I think he'll get closer to 50 with the assists of Kovalchuk and him feeding a puck to him, that is if he plays with him or not. If he isn't playing with Kovie, he'll not even get close to 30.

Well the Atlanta game last night Max Scored one goal and had an assist. So he has 2 points in however many games he played with Atlanta so far. Well Max has 2 points in two games he has played with them so far, so he might get signed with them, on their homepage there is a picture of Max with the title, "Maxim Makes a Splash." So he might be getting that contract soon. I also read the preview and Max was given plenty of ice-time and was on the first line, Kovie wasn't playing so he got two points without anyone really good on that team except some defensemen.
