Which team finishes with the fewest points this year?

A little past the half way point in the season and we are in a tight race between the Edmonton Oilers (37 points) and the Carolina Hurricanes (35 points). Tampa Bay (46 points), Columbus (45 points) and Toronto (41 points) could still make a move to capture the bottom spot for the 2009-2010 season, so it is a wide open contest.

What would be the opposite of a President's Trophy?

Hurricanes.

They're so bad. It's awesome.

I chose Edmonton, They are probably more screwed without Khabibulin.

The Hurricanes will probably finish second to last ta least, because they do have goaltending to keep them in games, sometimes.

Agreed totally, I voted for Edmonton too. Carolina actually has strung together some decent winning streaks.

To be honest, Carolina isn't as bad as their record suggests, they've been decimated by injuries all year.

Erik Cole, Eric Staal, and Cam Ward all out at the same time?

Hockey has a trophy for everything else, the fans should really come up with a trophy for the worst team in the league. Just to rub salt into the wound.

...just replace the football in the bowl with Gary Bettman's head.

We'll collect a fund, and send it straight to the worst team after the season is over.

By going 0-8-2 in their last 10 games Edmonton is starting to establish a firm hold on last place. Carolina and Toronto could still make a move, but they are going to have to step up their level of mediocrity if they hope to content with the Oilers for worst in the NHL.

Edmonton is also plagued by injury. What also really hurts them is having so many players underperforming on big contracts.

If Toronto would have stuck to the initial plan of a couple low finishes to build through the draft, their fans would have some long term hope. Kessel is a luxary they really couldn't afford with so many holes on the team.

Carolina should be able to retool the quickest of the three. If they can move some players before the deadline for decent prospects to play on a team with some good young players, they should be ok in a year or two.

Edmonton is one more loss away from having the first month-long losing streak in franchise history.

Edmonton is what we would be without Lindy Ruff.

No sir, Edmonton is what we would be without a lot of pieces. That team decided it's fate when Ryan Smyth and, a year later, Chris Pronger bolted from Rexall Place. No amount of miraculous coaching would save that team now.

Naw; Darcy has a much better blueprint for building a team than Edmonton did under Slats Sather and Kevin Lowe. Edmonton has third line players making first line money.

Toronto will probably end up last in the East.

Carolina is starting to get healthy again and have won one more game than Toronto and has played 2 less than them. Toronto only has a two point lead on them because they bring many games to OT/SO and lose them.
