The Lightning have reportedly had to get cash advances from revenue sharing money from the NHL to meet January payroll. They also got an advance of $2m last April from their TV partner to cover player salaries.

Keep that Sunbelt Stratergy alive Gay!!

Looks like it's about time for Bettman to buy the Lightning, too.

Ice hockey isn't successful in a swamp?

What sucks is, a team like Tampa will be willing to part with assets to save money, and this fucks up the dynamics of the trade deadline, especially for teams that have already spent close to the cap.

its not quite really the teams fault, completely. the ownership group that bought the lightning, defaulted on their loan, and the team is in the process of reverting back to PSE, the ownership group that owns the detroit pistons (which is one of the more solid ownership groups in all pro sports).. however, davidson recently passed, so the pistons themselves are struggling while the teams defacto owner is his widow, who doesnt know thing 1 about sports. so they are scrambling to either find a new owner for PSE (Mike illitch, owner of the red wings/tigers is said to potentially buy PSE, making illitch owner of the wings and lightning!)

so, in all honesty, i think its all just all these question marks, with davidson dying, and the team reverting back to PSE, its a huge mess. sadly. davidson was a good man.

Hey, we've got about 200 folks on the SabreFanatic boards. Whadda ya say we buy the Lightning? How much can it be? Somebody can pass around the hat at ETC's pub.

This will be just like an episode of the Brady Bunch.

I still remember Rob Ray commenting on Len Barrie's group buying The Lightning a couple years ago. Rob said that Len Barrie was a swindler when he played; he would welch on bets, was a liar, and all the other players hated him. Rob said if Len was involved in buying the club, then something wasn't kosher.

Spot on Rob.
