TSN is reporting.

So are multiple announcers across the league in games right now.

Well, this about seals the Sabres fate this season. There is just no way we compete with Wash., Pitt. or NJ with the fire power they have.

But, I don't think Buffalo made the wrong decision here, to much to give up for a rental.

We've beaten each one of those teams this year, we even came back from 3 goals down to beat Pittsburghs, we were the first teams to shutout Washington in the past two years, and It's always a low scoring affair with Jersey.

You're saying we are doomed because of that, I doubt it.

I can't wait for Kovalchuk to have his offensive game take a complete 180 when Lemaire expects him to be defensively responsible!

This was my first thought Rud, I wonder if Kovy even knows how to play the trap.
On a serious note though, him and Zack will be a hell of a tandem on a line. It just got a lot rougher playing NJ.

Kind of saw this coming CV. NJ wants to run with Wash. and Pitt. in the upcoming playoffs this was the player to grab to help them out. I am curious though what they gave up for him.

Just seen this on tsn.ca. Nothing is confirmed as of yet but you'd have to wonder what NJ gave up to get him?

Me too. But, the chance to win the Cup is worth it. If NJ lifts the Cup this season and Kovy is a factor in that, I will demand Reiger be fired. If they fail and Kovy screws the pooch, I will buy Reiger a drink.

I heard about this earlier today on Twitter...lots of talk about him going to Joizey.

Oy, this isn't good for the conference.

Our future is too bright to worry about a rental player of his abilities.

When the NHL itself is saying he's a Devil, I'm gonna go ahead and accept it as fact.

Fuck.

Been sayin that for 40 years, I'll pass thanks. I understand the sentiment, but to be honest with you, after 40 yrs of watching the Sabres, it takes moves like this to build a winner, short term or long term.

I wouldn't want him for anything we have in our system, Sky. Said that all along. I am curious though as to what Lou had to give up to get him. Hey, you think Cormier's rights were tossed into the deal as a way of Lou to rid himself and the Devils of all the negative media press? ;)

slesh, if he came with a deal that wouldn't destroy any hope of the Buffalo Sabres I'd love to have had him, but it wasn't going to happen.

But tell me how many times these big name players that have been traded won the cup with the team that got them?

Even though they were on the path to doing so, the only ones that come to mind are Roy back in the 95-96 season with the Avs and Billy Guerin last season with the pens. Hossa has tried it, but he has failed twice :D:D :D

I don't think you understand my point of view Sky, here is where I break it down in a nutshell, conference wide.
Pitt has Crosby, they hoisted the Cup last season.
Wash has Ovechkin, they very well may hoist the Cup this season
NJ now has Kovalchuk, I put them up there with Pitt and Wash, this was a great move by the Devils. Would have been for the Sabres as well.

The point is, this organization, nor its fans for that matter, should be saying "But were building for the future". I've heard that garbage for years. If you have a chance to elevate the club to contender status, even for 1 season, its well worth it considering the prior 40 years you didn't.

It's a shrewed and very, very smart move by NJ. My hats off to the management team over there, great job building a contender this season.
