AFTER 14 SEASONS, GOALTENDER OLAF KOLZIG RETIRES

"TORONTO - Veteran goaltender Olaf Kolzig is retiring after 14 seasons in the NHL.

The 39-year-old former Vezina Trophy winner -- known as "Olie The Goalie" -- spent most of his career with the Washington Capitals.

He says he plans to spend time with his family but wants to remain involved in hockey."

...Happy Trails, Olie. A good career.

I'm sure he can find a job as a goalie coach or trainer. He always had good form, and great conditioning. Perhaps a former team might see the sense in such an investment.

His play really tailed off about three years ago, so this is no surprise at all.

He'd be an excellent goalie coach.

I'm still a little bitter about how Kolzig stoned us in the '98 conference finals.

No wonder they could score on him, they were all feeling damn fine during and after that then.

I think Kolzig set the wins in a season by a goalie record with the Portland Pirates.

It's too bad Arturs Irbe just got hired to be the Caps' goalie coach. Maybe Tampa will bring him aboard.

I've seen him play live in my tour of the NHL's backups.
