Jones said he's talked to NHL officials about hosting the annual Winter Classic outdoor game. Boston's Fenway Park was home to the Philadelphia Flyers-Boston Bruins game on New Year's Day, and previous Winter Classics have been played at Chicago's Wrigley Field and Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo.

"We could obviously do something like that,' Jones said. "We've had communication with the NHL."

Isn't it too hot down there for an outdoor game?

I'm honestly not opposed to it in a few years if Dallas becomes a more competitive franchise, something like a Dallas Vs Wild game could be very interesting; and would be a good story for the NHL.

I vaguely remember an outdoor game in Las Vegas. If they could do it there, they could do it in Dallas. Not sure how good the ice conditions would actually be though.

Yeah, although if they closed the dome, and pumped up the AC unit down to like 55 they could do it, and the ice wouldn't be horrific.

They might be ahead of the game from a humidity standpoint too.

Then again, if they did something like this in Dallas, would anyone down there really care?

Valid points; I think it's something the NHL would have to study, and see if it is a marketable event there.

I dont think it's something like the New Orleans suggesting they'd like to host one in the Dome, they do have an NHL team in that city. I think it requires 2 or 3 years of solid market study.

You do realize Cowboy's stadium is inside, right? And you also realize that with refridgerated ice you can make ice anywhere basically. And most arenas are kept around 50-60 degrees already.

They could possibly have an outdoor game in the South, probably not lower than SC and they could possibly have an outdoor game even in Texas, but Jerry Jones' Cowboy's Stadium is an indoor one anyways.

And I think if he wants one, we should give him one, even if it's not going to be outside, that would be 100,000 people in that stadium watching the game.

I had no idea Cowboy's stadium was indoors. I don't follow football.

I know that hockey arenas are kept warmer than the ice surface, too.

My biggest concern would be having it down there and not selling out.

It's Jerry Jones, he's not an idiot when it comes to marketability, He may be an oil tycoon but he had to be somewhat smart to have a fortune of over a few billion dollars.

I bet it would sell out, even if you don't care for the game of hockey people would go just to see what it's about, and I know a few people who might start watching hockey just from watching the Canada vs USA game and liking the sport that way.

It couldn't be something they decide on for next year of course, it would need to be at least 2 years in advance, especially with the Cowboys normally making the playoffs.

I mean it won't be the same as a true Outdoor game or Winter Classic, but make that a featured game, and also have an outdoor game in one of the Northern cities also, make it a double dose of hockey on New Years.

ive been calling this since new years. dallas is suitable for an outdoor game that time of year. its cool, usually in the 40s and 50s, sometimes cooler. they just sold out the NBA all star game last month in there.

I like this idea. That will certainly lessen the load on the ice surface. :)

Sorry, but if you moved a team (especially one that NEVER should have moved), you're a second class franchise and deserve nothing.

Maybe it's just me, but what's the point of a Winter Classic game indoors? Isn't official league-based hockey taking place indoors just called "exactly whats happening in many other locations throughout the world every day"? The whole point of it is to have that classic outdoor feeling of playing on frozen ponds like the good ol' days.

Exactly.

If there's a Dallas vs Wild matchup, it better be in Minnesota.

Sure did.

They can't open it any more because of the internal additions to the building, but wouldn't this be a sight to see at a hockey game:
