Matt Cookie is scum. The impact on Savard occurs only at his head and neck. And no penalty was called.

This is absolutely inexcusable. Seeing shades of the Richards on Booth hit, here.

This is an absolutely gutless play by Cooke. He is garbage and he will always be garbage. There is absolutely no reason for him to take a run at Savard's head well after he released that puck. This really could have injured Savard, and he'll probably be out for a long time. There is no reason to make that hit and Cooke knows it. This is a complete lack of respect for another player. Cooke needs to be gone for a long long time. Richards too should have been suspended, because he is also a dirt bag, but he does it more subtly and gets away with it because he is considered "Selke-worthy." The only thing Mike Richards is worthy of is suspensions. Both this and the hit on Booth are gutless and unnecessary plays that do not belong in the game. If Cooke gets less than 10 games, it'll be an absolute mockery.

In before 'he was admiring his pass' comments.

Disgusting, gutless move. It seems like there have been so many more this season as compared to the last couple. The league MUST do something about this before someone gets paralyzed.

I don't think a penalty should've been called. It's all the equipment's fault imo. Guys can't be expected to be held accountable for the way they play.

sarcasm/wanted to be the first to make that dumb comment

What really disgusted me is the slow-motion toward the end of the clip. You see just how late Cooke was in hitting Savard, and how far up on Savard's head his hit was. Wretched.

I don't want to see one comment about the gear players are wearing these days, because gear doesn't tell you to drill another player in the head intentionally. If that's your argument, you need to be checked for schizophrenia, because you can't discern reality from fantasy.

shoulder to the neck, savard had just shot the puck. i think cooke had started the check before the shot but still shoulder to neck doesn't equal fun. just put a ban on head shots.

Cooke has the audacity to thing that was shoulder to shoulder? Yeah, that's why you lifted your elbow up scumbag.

Quote:
"I felt like it was shoulder to shoulder," said Cooke, who is uncertain whether he will be suspended by the NHL. "I know he's shooting the puck but I just finished my check. I got hit the same way my shift before at center ice by their defenseman, except I [ducked] at the last second."

Also, Savard has a confirmed concussion, and was taken off the ice on a stretcher.

If the over/under on this is 10 games, I'm praying for the over. I'm sure he gets 5 or less though.

It baffles me that NHL owners don't want to put a mandatory penalty in place for blows to the head.

THAT is the blindside hit I'm talking about.

That could be penalized just like boarding. Open ice hits should be from the front only, so players have a fighting chance at defending themselves.

Good point there. Can't believe there was no call.

No penalty. What a joke. This makes me so mad. Are there going to have to be 10 officials on the ice? Or more? This is disgusting.

Intent to injure...no question in my book.

the ref must not have seen it. they would have called that. but as a ref once told me "we cant call what we cant see. i cant make a call based on the aftermath with a guy on the ice. i cant make a call when i hear a high stick, but dont see it."

Make an example out of him and suspend him for the rest of the season.

That's a reasonable argument, but with 4 officials on the ice? That's inexcusable. The linesman can't can penalties themselves, but they are able to (and by rule SUPPOSED to) tell the referee if they saw something, and the referee can call a penalty on it. You never see if happen, but they have that ability.

Too many officials are too concerned with sticking up for one another.

I umpired little league for three years, and there were a few guys that would say, "if I have to check a call just agree with me so there's no problems." And this is in a low pressure situation for freaking kids, I can't imagine what goes on in professional sports.

I never agreed with that mantra, it was always, get it right. Period. Paragraph.

Well it wasn't an elbow.

But you can eliminate most blows to the head just by disallowing blind side hits at open ice.

The Neil hit on Drury was just like this. Legal by the rule book now, but dangerous and cheap.

No blind side hits = no defenseless hits.

I'm all for hard nosed physical hockey but seriously this kind of fucking shit has to stop. Make an example out of him: I'd say 20 games.
