Matt Cooke is not being suspended by the NHL for his hit on Marc Savard. Penguins have been informed of that by the league.

Colie Campbell explaining his decision now. Said it was a matter of consistency. No suspension for Richards. No suspension for Cooke.

Said if this hit happens next season it is a suspension. And if it's a repeat offender like Cooke, the suspension will be stiffer again.

This comes out right after the announcement about a new rule for hits to the head?

The NHL has a serious message problem.

It's because Cooke is on Pittsburgh and nothing bad can ever happen to Pittsburgh with Crosby on the team.

There's no rule against it right now, unfortunately.

It's tough to suspend someone when they're playing within the rules of the NHL.

29.1 Supplementary Discipline - In addition to the automatic fines and suspensions imposed under these rules, the Commissioner may, at his discretion, investigate any incident that occurs in connection with any Pre-season, Exhibition, League or Playoff game and may assess additional fines and/or suspensions for any offense committed during the course of a game or any aftermath thereof by a player, goalkeeper, Trainer, Manager, Coach or non-playing Club personnel or Club executive, whether or not such offense has been penalized by the Referee.

If an investigation is requested by a Club or by the League on its own initiative, it must be initiated within twenty-four (24) hours following the completion of the game in which the incident occurred.

This is an absolute joke and a mockery to the game. This sends the wrong message. This is the NHL telling Matt Cooke that seriously injuring other players is just fine. Not only does it let Matt Cooke know that, it tells Mike Richards, Jarkko Ruutu, Chris Neil, and every other scum bag that laces up the skates there are no repercussions for going for players heads and sidelining them for months, whole seasons, and even the rest of their careers (because we all know a concussion can do that.) I am so mad right now, I can't even think. Cooke has done this before, and the previous suspension did not teach him anything so Colie Campbell just lets him off the hook? Are you kidding me? What happens when does this in another game this season or in the playoffs? He will keep doing this until he is hit with a long suspension and is held off the ice and his paycheck does not reach his pocket for a long time.

On a side note, Boston plays Shittsburgh again on Thursday. God I hope Shawn Thornton or Zdeno Chara destroys Cooke. I do not support the Bruins in any manner, but god almighty do I want them to a)win this game and b) destroy Cooke.
