Just coming across Bob McKenzie's Twatter:

Quote:
Matt Cooke is not being suspended by the NHL for his hit on Marc Savard. Penguins have been informed of that by the league.

Quote:
Colie Campbell explaining his decision now. Said it was a matter of consistency. No suspension for Richards. No suspension for Cooke.

Quote:
Said if this hit happens next season it is a suspension. And if it's a repeat offender like Cooke, the suspension will be stiffer again.

Two words....

FUCKING JOKE.

Why is it a suspension NEXT year, and not THIS year?

This comes out right after the announcement about a new rule for hits to the head?

The NHL has a serious message problem.

Campbell is the problem. He has absolutely ZERO consistency with these things. Chris Simon kicks someone? 25 games as a repeat offender, Chris Pronger, ALSO on the receiving end of suspensions about 7 times prior? 8 games. The guys making a fuckin mess of things, and he is completely and totally incompetent when it comes to doing his job.

It's because Cooke is on Pittsburgh and nothing bad can ever happen to Pittsburgh with Crosby on the team.

It's a joke, and Colin Campbell should be fired and replaced. Anyone who doesn't get a suspension for a hit to the head better watch out since everyone in the league should make them a marked man.

This is an absolute joke and a mockery to the game. This sends the wrong message. This is the NHL telling Matt Cooke that seriously injuring other players is just fine. Not only does it let Matt Cooke know that, it tells Mike Richards, Jarkko Ruutu, Chris Neil, and every other scum bag that laces up the skates there are no repercussions for going for players heads and sidelining them for months, whole seasons, and even the rest of their careers (because we all know a concussion can do that.) I am so mad right now, I can't even think. Cooke has done this before, and the previous suspension did not teach him anything so Colie Campbell just lets him off the hook? Are you kidding me? What happens when does this in another game this season or in the playoffs? He will keep doing this until he is hit with a long suspension and is held off the ice and his paycheck does not reach his pocket for a long time.

On a side note, Boston plays Shittsburgh again on Thursday. God I hope Shawn Thornton or Zdeno Chara destroys Cooke. I do not support the Bruins in any manner, but god almighty do I want them to a)win this game and b) destroy Cooke.

Please tell me this was a 'just joking' response. Cause if not, you're very silly.

NHL 101:

Rule 1: Be consistent!
Rule 2: If you have made a bad desicion perform Rule 1 for the rest of the season
Rule 3: If you have made the right desicion ... [no empirical data available]

yea the NHL has to be consistent. Hit to the head penalty. not pick and choose who get suspended who does not. I don't care which team it is the pens or the panthers.

Will it take a drive by Zamboni shooting to suspend someone in this league?

There's no rule against it right now, unfortunately.

It's tough to suspend someone when they're playing within the rules of the NHL.

Many plays have occurred where a penalty was not called on the ice, yet supplemental discipline was handed out. Any player can be suspended at any time for anything per rule 29.1.

Quote:
29.1 Supplementary Discipline - In addition to the automatic fines and suspensions imposed under these rules, the Commissioner may, at his discretion, investigate any incident that occurs in connection with any Pre-season, Exhibition, League or Playoff game and may assess additional fines and/or suspensions for any offense committed during the course of a game or any aftermath thereof by a player, goalkeeper, Trainer, Manager, Coach or non-playing Club personnel or Club executive, whether or not such offense has been penalized by the Referee.

If an investigation is requested by a Club or by the League on its own initiative, it must be initiated within twenty-four (24) hours following the completion of the game in which the incident occurred.

Yea it was just joking.

I think it's a huge disgrace he wasn't suspended, I think Richards should have been suspended also for his hit on booth.

Colin Campbell is the reason for this bullshit. You get a guy with balls to suspend players, you won't get these hits, or you won't get these hits as often, and very far and inbetween.

This thing is so hilarious its not even funny. Campbell and some other pussies trying to go hard against fighting. At the same point these pussies aren't able to do anything against very dangerous actions like hits to the head?

Campbell and Bettman really need to get their heads out of the Pens asses

Suspend him as long as Savard is out this would send a clear message.

Post subject:  Re: Cooke NOT Suspended

In this case it is definitely a joke. Cooke, a known doutche has knocked Boston's Savard out for probably the rest of the season. I'm not saying judge based on injury, but they do that for high sticking, and you technically could blind someone with a high stick if all the conditions fall into place correctly. Cooke should get at least 5 games, and i'm saying that based on the severity of the injury which i'd rather their just be a two game suspension, and a 10 minute major penalty with a game misconduct.

Head hitting can lead to a lot of terrible injuries. You figure your head is resting on two bones and the spinal cord. You snap the cord especially up near the head you can kill a person, most of the primordial parts of the brain are in the stem and they cary out a lot of life sustaining functions. And that is just covering the whip lash, i haven't even mentioned the collision with the Ice. The visual part of the brain is in the occipital lobe, back of brain. then it's not just a NHL penalty its manslaughter, and Bettman maybe able to work the NHL, but he's got no say in the way the US criminal system works. which i'm sure he understands as he apparently went to Cornell for law school.
