2 games is about right.

I respectfully disagree with your opinion, duder.

Someone on TSN said it best I think. Ovie isn't dirty, but he sure is reckless with his actions.

Two games is reasonable.

Remember a few years back when Briere was suspended a game because he was 'reckless with his stick'? Well, Ovie is pretty reckless with his body. Hopefully he can find a way to continue to play his style of game without these reckless and dangerous hits on others.

If this was his first foray into "reckless but not dirty" territory, I'd say sure he only deserves two games, but I present to the hockey-loving public this laundry list of reckless douchebaggery. He's been averaging two "reckless but not dirty" hits a season, with the exception of this one where he has three. Ovechkin needs a big message sent to him before he crosses the line from reckless to dangerous.

I still cannot believe the idiotic comment that Pierre McGuire made right after that hit. Something along the lines of: "Well Campbell has great leg strength so I think that right there is just a testament to how strong Alex Ovechkin really is." W.T.F. What a dumb fucking Canuck. Why is he even allowed to commentate on national television.

i think tom said it right. hes not out there to hurt people, hes out there to win at all costs. hes very similar to peter forsberg. just a hyper competitive being. sometimes, when you play that hard, your going to end up doing questionable things. at least he was suspended.

Are we going to be saying these same things another four years down the road when Ovechkin is averaging two or three game misconducts a season? He's gotten progressively more reckless because the NHL isn't doing anything about his loose cannon style. Unless he reels it in, he's going to significantly hurt someone (or should I say hurt someone worse than Soupy is).

I do think that the NHL should start to ratchet up the length of these suspension at some point.

If Ovie knows that he can continue to do the same things and get two games off every time, he'll never change. Suspensions should be as much of a deterrent as they are a punishment.

This league is a huge joke. If Kaleta did this he would easily have been out at least 10 games no questions asked. Even Lapirere for Montreal got more and Nichol was even hurt. :x :snooty:

I certainly agree with this, which is why, after four years and nine reckless-as-hell hits, Ovechkin needs a suspension in the 5-10 game range to teach him a lesson. He's a competitive "me" player (not to say he isn't a team player, but he loves him some him), and losing a chance at the Rocket Richard, Art Ross, and Hart trophies would probably drive him nuts - especially if it's Crosby who steps into his spot.

Throwin' elbows is dirty. People say Gordie Howe was one of the best ever because of his fire, talent, and drive, but no one says he was classy. Why? Cuz everyone knew he was dirty as hell cuz he "just fuckin loved throwin elbows around".

I will believe when I see it, he will never learn.

Okay, can someone please tell me how a hit from behind isn't dirty?

I know for a fact in Canada the first thing you are taught about hitting is to never hit from behind. I'm sure the States are the same. What are they teaching about hitting in Russia.

Throwin elbows in today's game is dirty. Back then it was nothing. The dirty stuff back then was the nasty ass stick work.

You have a bit of a point - that gnarly stick work was just raw! But still, was there an elbowing penalty back in the '50's? Cuz if so, that would certainly make it dirty.
