Burke thinks if players are allowed to bear hug players before plowing them into the boards, that it will cut down on the force and resulting injury level.

If a player can't react in time to lay off a hit near the boards when a player becomes vulnerable, how are they going to react in time to square their shoulders and bear hug the player? Maybe Burke wants the rules to enable his team to clutch, grab, and maul the other team just how he wants it.

Quote:
Burke is lobbying the league to allow what he calls a "bear hug," where a player, usually a defenseman, is allowed to wrap his arms around the targeted player, for a fleeting moment, while he takes him into the boards.

First time I read this, I accidentally read targeted as "talented."

Probably my subconscious getting angry about this idea because he's practically reversing all the progress the NHL has made to cut down on clutch and grab hockey with that rule.

Are you stupid, Burke?

I'm fairly certain we all got it. I mean, the "THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!" line isn't exactly a rarity among quoted film lines.

Speaking of A League Of Their Own, I was talking about Lori Petty today at work. How random.

hey, that movie is almost 20 years old...I've been shocked at some references missed by some of you younger folks in the past ;)

Some of us just don't acknowledge every reference...should we start?

A long time ago, a rumor was spreading around Tallinder was accused of sexual abuse. Obviously he didn't do anything but it was really funny the way people talked about it at the games. When he went for a hit, they would say "Don't turn your back on him!".

He was accused of gang-raping a woman with Andreas Lilja and Kristian Huselius. Turns out the gang-bang was consensual.

Burke is a douche, he models his team after guys who actually hit and now he wants hitting out of hockey? Give me a break Burke!!! Go and watch dancing or something.

Hahaha fuck you guys. And no, I didn't understand this reference.

EDIT: For the record, I'm not much of a movie person. You could list a ton of popular movies from the past two decades, and I bet you'd be shocked at some movies I haven't seen... Most people are anyways haha.
