Check this out:

From the Buffalo News

Bruins' run foreshadows big, bad future
Here's a great read from today's Boston Globe, albeit a sobering one for Sabres fans. Columnist Tony Massarotti points out that the Bruins -- still one game away from a stunning run to the Eastern Conference finals after Friday night's OT loss in Philly -- are going to be Stanley Cup contenders for years to come thanks to the shrewd trades and drafting of GMs Peter Chiarelli and Mike O'Connell.

And thanks to the brainlock of self-appointed Toronto genius Brian Burke, don't forget that a Boston team on the verge of hockey's final four has the No. 2 pick in this year's draft and is about to add either Tyler Seguin or Taylor Hall, junior standouts destined for NHL stardom.

NHL Central Scouting, in fact, compares Seguin to Steve Yzerman and Hall to Zach Parise. And one of them becomes a Bruin in a few weeks. Oy vey.

*********************

I wanna second that:

OY VEY.

Steve Mason sucked it up this year.

Patrick Lalime set records as a rookie.

Ray Emery flamed out. Nothing is concrete. It ain't happening until it happens.

The point is that saying that Rask is a bona-fide NHL superstar for years to come, and that either of the Taylors is "destined for NHL stardom" at this point is stupid. As is saying that either of those things, if they DO happen will make the Bruins cup contenders for years to come. The sharks have had Nabokov and Marleau, and Thornton and a host of other great players for a while and not many would call them stanley cup contenders.

steve mason had a sophomore slump and started coming around late in the season. hes going to be a great starter in a few years.

and anyone with an eye for goaltending can see the puck didnt find rask, rask found the puck. you cant teach that. of course nothing is for sure, but unless something drastic happens, rask is going to be the elite of the elite.

and come on, people are already predicting norris trophies for myers for years to come, and that falls under the same category.

oh, and patrick lalime was a VERY good starter with ottawa. he wasnt a one and done, his lateral movement just went dead. thats really a HUGE thing in goaltending, if a goalie has great lateral movement, thats the foundation of todays game.

I'm not debating that there are not explanations and excuses with varying degrees of plausibility, that article just struck me as kind of stupid.

The medias (and fans) over-willingness to jump on young players as saviors too early in their careers kills sports because it fosters environments in which there is no patience to let players (that need it) the time to properly develop.

In the NFL it used to be that backup quarterbacks were able to come in and do an adequate to solid job of leading the team.

Why?

Because this was in an era when the "win now" mentality wasn't so prevalent and rookies were able to get the time to develop into decent players rather than being thrown to the wolves and then shipped out in a few years because they didn't pass muster.

ok, thats fine. id agree. in fact, if it was up to me, myers wouldnt have even been signed till THIS off season and shipped on down to maine for a season just in case.

but thats not the point, im agreeing with that article, because, well, its very true. i cant predict the future, so i could be wrong. but thats not gonna stop me from thinking something.

So you're NOT one of those "fans" who unleashes a litany of player-names-I-never-heard-of every time the Sabres had a horrible game?

In those situations I am always quick to point out that minor league or draft caliber prmoise can be erased pretty quickly once you step on major league ice.

Still, of all the teams to get the 2nd pick, Boston doesn't seem to be the most needy, even with all their injuries.

To be completely honest, Tuukka Rask has not looked like the league leaders in GAA and SV% in these playoffs.

Time will tell if Mr Rask is going to be Elite or not. Mason had a sophomore slump will he rebound next year or not is the questions? Will Rask stay the aame way or not?

Boston is going to be scary in the next few (or maybe 10) years if they can keep putting pieces together. Not a team I want to face numerous times a year.

The article is just quoting a homer sports writer from Boston. Boston has a decent future, but they also have two playoff producers (Recchi and Satan) that are old and UFAs this summer. They currently are at 60 mil total cap hit...a few mil over the limit. They can't put that roster together again with Thomas anchoring them down, so they're facing a minor cap hell issue unless some GM is dumb enough to trade for Thomas.

Atlanta doesn't resign Hedburg and they trade for Thomas. Calling it.

Why trade when you can buy him out?
