Hell yea Chi-Town - you show em what a hockey town looks like, even if 1/3+ are bandwagon dorks. Gotta start somehow, and a Cup is a helluva way to start.

I read on Twitter that the entire crowd was chanting Hossa's name. That man need to sit in a large, comfy chair and put his feet up for a coupla weeks. He's played a ton of hockey lately.

How long was the parade route? I'm trying to imagine 2 million people in the street and it seems impossible unless it was a huge area.

LOVE this part....

Quote:
“I’ll tell you one thing — this is unbelievable,” Kane told the crowd from the podium. “I’ll tell you one thing, I’ll try to keep my shirt on all summer. For all the cab drivers out there, I love you.”

Winger Patrick Sharp greeted the crowd by saying: “What’s up, Chicago! Anyone want Pat Kane’s cell phone number?”

That link caused like 4 pop-ups on my work computer here, more than all the other sites I've visited today combined.

"When he reached the rally site, he tossed tennis balls into the crowd. Someone even threw him a football, which he gladly grabbed and hurled back into the crowd.

Then someone tossed Kane a beer. He cracked it open, let the suds overflow and took a big swig to huge cheers.

He poured beer into the Stanley Cup and drank from it. Then it was Toews’ turn to taste a little beer from the cup."

awesome

Check out these pics if you still doubt the volume of the crowd

Fun with math, by Stu:

HSBC arena holds what, about 19,000 people. 2 million people would be roughly equivalent to 105 filled HSBC arenas.

What do you think, does that look like 105 HSBCs?

Hey, I don't know....but for the police to estimate 2 mill, even if they are exaggerating, you'd have to assume they were in the ballpark...1.3, 1.5...something like that.
I don't think this is a case of 200,000 being turned into 2 million.

HUGE number any way you look at it.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, pun intended, I'm just fixating on it now. I'd like to think there's some way I could figure it out. If scientists can tell how much oil is shooting from the ocean floor, this should be small potatoes.

 Do they have any idea where that cup's been? I've heard it was in fucking swimming pools for gods sake. A repeat attempt at it would be crippled if either one of them got aids from that cup. /sacrasm

having been there this morning i can tell you it was fucking awesome. the estimate of 2million people is really not that far off.

the parade route went from the United Center, down Washington St to Michigan Ave. im not sure how long that is but im sure someone can mapquest it and find out. anyway, it was pack. my friend and i got there about an hr before the parade started and it wasnt long before people filed in and filled the sidewalks along the parade route to beyond capacity (people were climbing street signs, traffic lights, news vans, etc).

the final destination for the parade and the rally was near millenium park in some plaza. everyone that wasnt set up somewhere else on the parade route made their way there after the buses past them. it was a swarm of red making its way though the city. from the several helicopters that were circling it must have seem as though a red flood and washed through the city streets. luckily for the police nothing serious happened because if something, say a riot, broke out nothing could have been done. chicago would have been under riot control for the next couple days.

anyway, at the rally point people flooded in and climbed on top of everything...and i do mean everything. there was a street sweeper machine in the street, that was covered with people, the little shelter things at bus stops, people were on those. people climbed street signs, traffic lights, etc. i have a picture of a guy who was, im not kidding, balancing on a "no parking" sign while holding on for dear life to the bar that was above it. me and my friend stood on the flower box median on wacker for the parade and ended up standing on a massive stone flower pot at the rally with about 5 other people while people pushed and shoved their way around the plaza.

ill try to get some pictures up soon.

thats a picture of about 1/4 of the people that were at the end of the rally. people were coming and going a lot.

That is amazing. Everytime the Cup is awarded to a team, I can't help but fantasize about what it would be like if the Sabres won. I think Buffalo would be shut down for days. If the Sabres won out of town, the 33 would be crazy, with everyone trying to drive to the airport to greet the players. There wouldn't be a day that goes by for the rest of my life when I wouldn't think about the day that they won...

I saw a clip of it, and Kane of course was rocking a bottle of champagne

Apparently Kane was incredibly drunk and slurred his speech. That's what I hear.
