Also if Pittsburgh get him signed they won't have to break the bank and sign the burn out in Gonchar.

Well, since they traded for his rights, I'm guessing they were hoping they could come to some kind of deal with him. Nothing doing though it seems.

They traded him because after Hamhuis' agent said publicly they didn't even have a request for a deal in place, Philly knew they weren't gonna get him unless they overpaid for him.

Pittsburgh is certainly going to pay for him, rumor has it he's going to get an offer of 3.5-3.75 for 5-6 years.

Great pickup for them then, no more Gonchar

Hey, it's better than the rights to Raffi Torres for a 2nd rounder, right. Darcy's "rental player" strategy blows. He didn't go high enough with Zubrus, and didn't even have to go for Torres. I'm sure all the GM's salivate over who gets his wasted 1st or 2nd rounder every year. Before anyone bitches that "you want him to make a move, and when he does you bitch", my gripe is that you go big or go home when you are on the cusp of a cup run. Zubbie wasn't enough, and "riding a hot goalie" to a cup didn't work out either. Maybe no deals were out there, but this guy is shrewd to say the least, except for the inept deadline deals.

This isn't the thread to bash Darcy in, dude. Get a new one-trick pony and beat that to death.

And Brad, apparently Gonchar was a goner anyways - they offered him a two-year deal and he turned it down because he wants three years.

Yeah I heard that too and I thought Gonchar would accept the offer the pens gave him, then when I saw hamhuis go to Pittsburgh and I was sure Gonchar was done. Plus who wants Gonchar on a 3 year deal?? He is getting up there in age.

Oh, I must be in the wrong bash Darcy thread, my bad:

Just woke up. Saw this thread. Am pissed again.

The title should be welcoming Emerson Etem (or Jon Merrill, as Jay would've preferred). Darcy fucked up on this pick, with the organization needing center depth more than defensive depth. Rud, the team has five future NHL defensemen in Portland and more still in college or juniors - adding defensive depth is Darcy being weak and safe, not smart.

This team needed to address a dearth of scoring talent in the ranks, and Darcy balked. I'm still pissed but I shouldn't be surprised - he's a sissy and he'll always be a sissy when it comes to pulling the trigger. Instead of celebrating picking a gifted center with scoring prowess and praising Darcy for his vision, we're saying it's OK he took a mid-range rearguard while the team already has more depth at defense than any other position?

(This is in no way an indictment of Pysyk himself, I'm sure he'll be a serviceable NHLer eventually. This rant is wholly aimed at Darcy knowing he can fuck around at the draft cuz what's gonna happen to him ever? Nothin)

I have no idea what "pony" you think people are beating all the time. Where I come from being consistent is important. I see no problem with me stating that the Pens did no worse by risking a 3rd to go after a guy they think can help them win a cup, rather than adding a guy who ISN'T going to win you a cup for a 2nd. Not sure what the problem is Phil, I think my argument is reasonable enough.

Dude, we're in a thread about Hamhuis. This thread has NOTHING to do with the draft or Darcy, so why are you bringing him up and quoting me from a thread that does have to do with the aforementioned topics. The post you quoted of mine is posted in an applicable thread. This thread is not.

I already said why. A comparison of trade strategy. At the end of the day(July 1st), we WILL NOT have Torres, and our 2nd. At the end of the same day, PIT will not have their 3rd round pick, and POSSIBLY not Hamhuis. Just pointing out that I agree with the Pittsburgh strategy more than Buffalo's trade for Torres. Sorry if I lost you there.

Not enough? What the fuck are you supposed to do with a president's trophy team, blow it up at the trade deadline? Stop picking fruit from the dumb-dumb tree.

You didn't lose me there, you plain didn't post anything relevant to the topic at hand until I called you out for posting something completely unapplicable.

Did bringing in Pronger "blow up" Philly(or Briere)?? Zubrus and Torres weren't good pickups, and saying teams that try to improve at the deadline" blow themselves up" isn't real logical. It's always a gamble when you do it.

was that a dumb-dumb move?? I could play childish name games here, but I'm not gonna be lured in.

Philly wasn't a President's Trophy Winning team. You're saying that a presidents trophy winning team (in zubrus not being enough) didn't make enough moves at the trade deadline. That's retarded.

That's all fine and dandy, but unless you articulate them well enough no one else is going to know them but you.
