So with the official presser just a couple of days ago, I figured I would see what everyone here thinks about it this year? I, for one am considering not watching it. I am so sick of the Caps/Pens bullshit. From what I've heard here and there, so are a lot of hockey fans. Is this a really good idea, or is the NHL driving away it's actual fans from watching it in an attempt to get one time TV ratings. Should another team besides the Pens gotten the slot? Absolutely. Basically I wanted to get everyone else's opinions on it. As well as the Heritage Classic in Canada, which I will actually watch.

I'll be watching the WC purely because it's hockey. Just like the last two years, I'll have no rooting interest. I am VERY glad it's moved back to a football field, because I feel that's where they belong.

And I'll be rooting like hell for the Flames during the HC, although I wish it were the Oilers or Canucks instead of the Habs.

This is fucking stupid, haven't the Penguins been in every damn winter classic? And why isn't it something interesting like a Blackhawks-Flyers rematch?

i dont like that pittsburgh has it again. even if the league decides to give the finger to the southern teams. there are still plenty of northern based teams that should still have a chance to play before a repeat.

i also think that having 2 classics is stupid. apparently its impossible for the NHL to have a canadian team play an american team. or the nhl believes that american hockey fans wont watch a canadian classic.

The point of the Winter Classic is to draw American fans. The casual, idiot American fan doesn't give a damn about anything but America, so the NHL is fully justified in not having an American v Canadian classic.

Who cares if Pittsburgh has it again. I will still watch it but the flare of out door games has really worn off, thanks Bettman

Obviously its crap that the Penns get another go. Out of all the NHL teams who haven't played in one, giving it to a team twice is just about ratings and nothing more. I hope OV and Crosby both get hurt just before the game and have to sit out. Now that would be karma.

It would also damage the purpose for the game, having the league's top two stars not playing.

I know it would and that would blow but it would serve them right for giving it to the Penguins again.

I'd just like to be a fly on the wall when Bettman got the call that they BOTH wouldn't be playing.

I'll watch it since it's still a great sight.

I'll be annoyed that the NHL seems to be putting more time and effort into the Winter Classics after Buffalo's. Just seems like they TRIED harder in Chicago and Boston.

I'll probably turn it off after the Sidney Crosbey stroke fest gets to be too much.

Yeah, I'll probably watch it, but I won't be terribly interesting. I kind of hate every eastern conference team but Buffalo so seeing two of them going at it isn't especially palatable.

Actually, it might not be such a bad thing. Canada vs. USA may really get the average idiot's interest.

Interestingly enough, during our Winter Classic I was forced to switch to CBC because the stroke fest was all on NBC. I know it always has been, but it's funny that the national hockey broadcast in Canada talks about him far lass than the one here.

Honestly, that's my thought process, too...but we're already emotionally-invested in the good ol hockey game, so our brains work differently than Joe College Football's does.

Oh right, all those bowl games hockey has to compete with. I guess it makes sense then, but still if Pittsburgh gets one this year, shouldn't Buffalo get another one in the near future, while we're still good. I mean we do have Team USA superstar/Olympic MVP Ryan Miller on our team. You could easily argue he's #3 on the league's list of stars because of all of his recent success.

I'd say top ten, but not #3. And honestly, I'd rather see every northern team that hasn't played one yet participate before the Sabres do again. I want to see the jerseys and arenas all around the country and continent. Besides, I'd rather the next Buffalo WC be held in a new stadium, cuz Ralph Wilson ain't exactly a pretty field.

didn't really watch it the past two years. last year i kept flipping it on to see the olympic rosters annouced, but thats it.

i do get why the NHL has chosen to keep it going, but i kind of feel like it should be like thanksgiving day in the NFL. have the same two teams always playing. not even necessarily eachother.. but then again, i'd only like that because i'm a sabres homer and think buffalo is the perfect place for an outdoor game.

I dunno man, after the olympic run, pretty well everyone in America thinks Ryan Miller when they think hockey.

I agree, I got a friend hooked on miller during that Olympic run... and he's also a confirmed Crysby hater. LOL
