During Bloch's ruling, he specifically mentioned the Hossa, Pronger, Luongo, and Savard deal. Well guess what - Luongo's deal is under investigation now, according to VAN GM Gillis. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Luongo+year+contract+deal+under+investigation/3378778/story.html If they investigate those deals and overturn one of them, expect the dominos to fall. (Yes, Squanto, I do know it's past the elapsed time allowed to overturn deals) |

What about the scenario of them fining the team? Is that still a plausible course of action? |

If they cannot overturn the deals, then a hefty fine is probably the only way they can punish the teams. |

Make the fine a cap hit, that'll teach them... |

Seanothan27 wrote: Make the fine a cap hit, that'll teach them... This. Putting penalties against their own cap prevents them from signing other players. Seems fair to me. |

A penalty in the form of a cap hit would really drive the point home. Especially for teams like Chicago and Philadelphia, who are already up against the cap. |

Maybe teams shouldn't make these deals because they are very unwise? |

It's funny in a sick way. The owners bitched and moaned before the lockout because salaries were escalating, there was no cost certainty, etc. So they locked the players out to get a cap system to provide a brake on salaries AND to get that cap in place. Now that they got the cap in, those SAME owners are trying to find new and creative ways to circumvent that same cost certainty that they so desperately wanted. |

Well, the owners wanted to control escalating salaries for middle of the road players and below, not necessarily superstars that bring in revenue by the boatload. They wanted the cap so they would have easier control of the salaries of the bottom 80% while still being able to throw tons of cash at the superstars. |

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/s ... id=5450709 scott burnside suggests the nixed deal may drive a wedge between the owners and the PA.... and he mentions the possibility of another work stoppage. "Bigger picture, some are suggesting the Kovalchuk ruling is the first border war in what may be another Terminator-style clash between the players and the owners when a new CBA is expected to be bargained at the end of the 2011-12 season." he goes on to say HE doesnt think so, but even so, i dont even like the possibility of it all, even if it is minuscule. |

The owners were discussing a lockout halfway through July, honestly. |
