Quebec city organized the "Blue March" this afternoon to send a message to the federal government and the NHL to show their support for the return of the Nordiques to the NHL. Between 80,000 and 100,000 people showed up! It was pretty spectacular. Former coaches and players were treated like rock stars.

As awesome as that is, I can't even fathom being okay with the federal government spending money on a single city to build an arena.

Yeah, that's the big problem. I'm not too high on the idea, but the mayor wants it to be completely "public" with no private investments. However, he insists that the arena is firstly for an Olympic candidacy(2022) and not only for an NHL team(and obviously the federal would be spending money if it was for the Olympics). The federal government said that there is no way they would spend money if this is only for an NHL team, which is understandable. The provincial government has already promised 45% of the 400 millions(or less) estimated for the arena. And Quebec city will spend 50 millions.

The only way the funding is granted is if they somehow pull off this fleece job of saying it's for an Olympic candidacy.
