Myers and Chara on the same team... I think their arm lengths would cover the width of the ice.

TSN says 45 million over 7 years. That's an assload of cash

Hmmm... 6.4 per. I guess that's not too poor of a deal. How old is he?

That's roughly a million per word in Chara's vocabulary.

I clicked because of the witty thread title, and I stayed for the banter!

This deal is very significant for Myers fans, because Chara is one of the very few players that you can compare Myers too. And therefore, this contract becomes a talking point for his next deal. If the cap is the same as it is today, two years from now, then I would expect something like 7 years 6.5 per year. Give or take up too half a million.

Some of you might think he's too young to get a deal as big as an established veteran. Well, that's how today's NHL goes.

Actually, I think Myers might get more than Chara. It will be in the future and the contracts may be going up, Myers is younger, and will most likely be better than Chara in two years.

It's a very good precursor for the upcoming Myers contract in 2 years. 6.4M per for 7 years is a very fair price for a franchise defensive man.

Maybe too fair. The star forwards are wanting at least 7, and only if ya sign em till 3011. Otherwise they want 8 or more at their own length. This could get interesting if Myers continues to progress. Would you throw a $7/10 year offer sheet at him if he wins a Norris?? I'll bet Lowe(et al) would.

Ah, for the days when $5 million was exorbitant...

I'd be comfortable dishing out that much in a lengthy contract to Myers if he continues to perform well; give it a few years, and it will have been worth it.
