These long contracts are becoming more common. It will be interesting to see how the league looks in several years as far as that is concerned. |

Most teams will have their core players locked up for an eternity and the third and fourth line guys will change out every few years. Honestly, it's the way to build a team, lock up those guys to build around, and plug in the holes with cheap guys. |

Thank god we signed Pominville and Hecht before these crazy contracts became the norm. They'd all be in year 3 of their 9 year contracts |

aaaaaaaaaaaand that is why the Sabres will have a hard time for years to come. Since our team is pretty much made up of 3rd and 4th liners.... |

I think he's making a point towards the fact that they didn't wait to sign him to a lengthy extension at a decent price, something that the Sabres refuse to do. |

Ryan Miller and Derek Roy would like a word with you... |

As has been pointed out, they do sign some players to longer extensions. I've read a couple articles criticizing Philly for this move. Anything over 6-7 years is a LONG time in hockey. You really don't know what you're going to get 8 years from now. |

Sabres fans would be screaming bloody murder if Regier locked up a one-dimensional player for 11 years. Hell, some Flyers fans already are. |

maybe we should offer myer's an extension right now for about 35-40 million for 10 years, before he turns into a real stud and we've gotta give him 5+ a season. |

I don't think anything over 5 is a sure-thing, but that's just me. Hell, the guy could get cheap-shotted one game in. |
