While on my facebook page today I see from the "Kaleta Dice Roll" page said from ESPN that Bettman is campaigning for the MLB Commissioner job once Selig retires. Now I did a little research and there is a page under the NHL Rumors section and it does have a bit saying Bettman might be leaving... now... you need to be a subscriber to see it, but then the manager of the KDR page posted a link to the "Fourth Period" website saying the same thing.
http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/nhl101109.html

Now the Fourth Period is not exactly the most credible site, but it is just something to think about.

If the NFL changed its commissioner several recent seasons ago, the same should be done in the NBA, MLB, and the NHL.

I would absolutely love it he left but I'm not getting my hopes up. Rumor abound that Stan Kasten is in line to be the next commish.

GOD I HATE BETTMAN!!! Worst thing for hockey ever! Please Gary, go fuck up MLB!!! Now if we could only get Paul Tagliabue out of retirement even for a few years to straighten out hockey while grooming his replacement... Im thinking like a 4 or 5 year deal for Tags to straighten out hockey a little while grooming his successor...

Has anyone here ever known a person who actually likes Bettman? I'm simply trying to figure out if anyone at all think he's good at his job. If not, how has he not been Nancy Kerrigan'd?

I don't necessarily like Bettman, but I don't blindly hate him as much as most people do. People look at the situations with Quebec and Winnipeg and only weigh that in their decision, but fail to see what he's done for the league since the lockout.

You know, Bettman has only done what the owners wanted in the first place.

"The owners hired Bettman with the mandate of selling the game in the U.S. market, end labor unrest, complete expansion plans, and modernize the views of the "old-guard" within the ownership ranks."

As much as we dislike the man, we do have to agree he fulfilled what the owners wanted, he has sold the game in the US Market much better than before and expanded. $400 million to a $2.2 billion dollar league in 15 years.

He has done a good job, whether we like him or not. I want him gone as much as you, but don't dismiss the good he actually brought hockey.

Don't forget he also brought the Winter Classic, as well. That's been a big hit to more than just hockey fans, but it's a staple in January 1st sports, in general.

Granted, Bettman has done some things wrong, but you can't argue with stats. And the stats show that hockey is gaining traction in terms of popularity.

Additionally, the NHL is more balanced than it has ever been, and the quality of the on ice product is fantastic.

I don't hate what he's done.

I hate some things which he has been in power for (See almost all southern expansion) but I also approve of some of the things which he has been in power for (CBA + Winter Classic/Heritage classic)

Over all, I pretty much hate the fact he breaths the same air as me,

If by balanced you mean the overall talent level spread out amongst more mediocre teams, then yes.

What are you getting at?

By balanced, I mean that any team can win on any given night. The NHL is the toughest league in professional sports to play in.

Players, coaches, and analysts all agree that this is the most balanced the league has ever been. It isn't just about what players are where.

San Jose is in last place in the Western conference. You know how many points separate them from first place in the West?

6.

Perfectly balanced isn't always good. Games being so close means that a team with a 1-2 goal lead just shuts it down and protects it. Not every team will, but most teams right now will do that. Protecting a lead is a more viable option than extending it for most teams in the league, and it's terrible to watch. Why? Less talented players.

15% of the players in this league right now could not have made an NHL roster before the Southern Expansion. It may have generated all those nice expansion fees, but it diluted the talent level leaguewide, and that hurts the product.

Your points argument also fails. Edmonton is in last with 10 points, LA is in first with 20. 10 points separate first from last in the west, 12 in the east.
