Gaborik makes $7.5M per year and is coming off a season in which he tallied 42 goals and 44 assists in 76 games for the New York Rangers. |

I don't think anyone should be making 7.5 million in the NHL, not even Ovechkin, Crosby, or Malkin. I would say he is slightly overpaid with that contract. |

A worse contract is Eric Staal. 8.2M...yikes. |

Still, the Hurricanes have one of the lowest payrolls still, even with Ward's and Staal's huge contracts. |

Well you must blow a gasket when you look at baesball salaries! The big hockey salaries amount to the big baseball agent's annual commissions! |

Yeah, not picking on Staal because he's a Cane, picking on Staal because his production is similar to Vanek's and he out earns Vanek by a good million, and we think Vanek has the worst contract ever. |

Nah, he's not really overpaid. You knew what you were getting when you gave him that contract. The Rangers knew they were getting a point per game player, maybe slightly higher, who was going to miss atleast 10 games a year. Overpaid is Sheldon Souray, Wade Redden, etc, guys who aren't even able to contribute to a team, and still collect that massive salary. It's like the Pomminville deal. Yeah he makes a lot of money, but you knew what you were getting. An all around utility player who can eat up 20 mins of ice a night, and contribute in every aspect. Does he make a lot, yes he does, but does he contribute more than just numbers, YES HE DOES. |

I'd say no...isn't Drury's cap hit similar to Gaborik's? |

Well you must blow a gasket when you look at baesball salaries! The big hockey salaries amount to the big baseball agent's annual commissions! Baseball has a much higher payroll then Hockey anyways and I don't care about baseball so I don't care how much they get paid. I know in Football they get paid a lot too, but they also have double the amount of cap space to spend, and basketball has half the amount of players a hockey team has. And I still simply don't care about baseball to even care. To me if you are getting 8 million dollars you better be consistently putting in 40 goals and 100 points. No questions asked. So I guess OV and Crosby earn their contracts. And if you're getting over 8 million you better always be in the top three for the Hart, Art Ross, and Rocket Richard trophies, which OV, and Crosby have done also. Basically if you can score 80 points a year, nothing more than 5 million really, you can get to 90+ 7 million is ok, but still a bit ridiculous. 6-6.5 for a 90 point player is good. |

If Gaborik can keep putting up those types of numbers and not have injury problems like he was plagued with in Minnesota, I think he'll be earning his contract. Of course, I think $7.5 mil for ANY player is pretty ridiculous. Looking at the Rangers roster, he appears to be the only one who has a scoring touch other than Drury and Frolov and they haven't been putting up many numbers what with Drury being injured (I think he still is?) and Frolov just not contributing period. |

Yea, I editted my original post to basketball. Since NHL and the NBA have similiar cap spaces, but way different ways of how it can get spent. It's hard to understand the CBA in BBall really. Or I don't understand how one player can get like 30 million a year while and another can get 15 million on the same team. It's strange. |
