http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=5984721 PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Deryk Engelland to a $1.7 million, three-year contract that runs through the 2013-14 season. The deal will count $566,700 per season against the NHL salary cap. The 28-year-old Engelland, in his first full NHL season, has developed into one of the league's top fighters. He also has two goals and three assists and a team-high 76 penalty minutes in 32 games after playing the previous three seasons in the AHL. The Penguins have seven defensemen under contract for next season: Alex Goligoski, Ben Lovejoy, Brooks Orpik, Kris Letang, Paul Martin, Zbynek Michalek and Engelland. All but Goligoski (2011-12) and Lovejoy (2012-13) are signed through at least the 2013-14 season. |

Haven't seen him play. Is he any good? Or is the age of the enforcer returning? |

2g, 3a in 31 games this year, 2-5-7 in 41 career games. Mostly an enforcer. |

He's a defenseman. Pretty solid for a #6 guy. Good deal for the Pens. |

this marks the end of Godards stay in pittsburgh and his 750k cap hit. interesting summer for the pens, they may have a total of 3mil for a winger. |

He really knows how to fight to, he's not closing his eyes and throwing haymakers, he's got all the tools. Strong legs, good balance, defends well, can take punches well, gets the lids off, just everything. I've watched slow motion instant replays of his right and I really tried to study it. What I learned is that he puts his entire back into it, it's like being hit with a warhammer, even glancing blows have devastating results. Combine that with a rapid reload and you got yourself a 200 pounder who can take down anybody. |

Engalland is very good for the Penguins. A true defender with a punch. |
