Coupla Caps beat writers I follow say this is the kind of "signed to be traded" deal people talk about

Team signs a player for less than he'd get on FA so that he'd get them a fair return instead of walking for nothing, and the recipient gets a player they want without breaking the bank.

You think 6.7 is what Semin is worth? I guess on a one year deal it doesn't really matter.

I don't think so (at all - playoff bum), but I'd wager it's less than he'd get on the open market.

This extension doesn't include an NMC or NTC, by the way.

Wonder if it makes him more tradeable?

I would think so. Other teams will be less hesitant to part with assets knowing that the guy they're trading for is under contract for another season.

Yeah, Semin is worth this contract...

Image

Semin - 174 gp, 92g, 106a, 198 pts, 18.9 mins, 1.68 g/60, 1.93 a/60, 3.61 pts/60

Know how I always say Vanek is fifth in goals per icetime since the lockout? Well Semin is fourth.

8g and 16a in 28 games and a career +1 in the playoffs isn't exactly terrible. Led the caps with 44 shots on goal in last season's playoffs, just didn't have the point totals.

This is also the second straight one year deal for Semin right? Pretty sure I read an article that says he prefers one year contracts.
