...and lord knows they need picks

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=353885

Kris Versteeg's tenure in Toronto has been a very short one as sources tell TSN that the Toronto Maple Leafs have sent the 24-year old forward to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a pair of draft picks, one of them being a first round pick.

Toronto originally brought Versteeg over from the Chicago Blackhawks last summer after he was a part of their Stanley Cup championship team last season. In 53 games with the Leafs this season, Versteeg has found the net 14 times, while adding 21 assists.

The 24-year-old native of Lethbridge, Alberta was selected in the fifth round (134th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins. In 223 career games, he has posted 58 goals and 78 assists for 136 total points.

Versteeg should give the Flyers some additional offensive punch as well as playoff experience as he had six goals and eight assists in 22 games during the Hawks Stanley Cup run last season.

If I'm correct, Philly now has less than 2 million cap space to re-sign 7 guys this off-season. They will have 10 forwards, 6 defensemen and 1 goalie and the 2 million. Guess they won't be too active in free agency(or the draft for that matter). Good luck with that.

Also putting a lot of faith in a rookie goaltender. I think this trade is folly, but if Bob holds up, and they win it, fine. Otherwise they have problems.

With the line up they have they should be a front runner but it falls back to how good their goaltending can be in the playoffs. That's the one area they are questionable. They are mounting a scary team though for the push. Seems like a now or never attitude.

They will find a way, just like the Rangers.

I hate the Flyers more than any other team but the way Holgrim has run them since taking over a couple of years ago is a thing of beauty. He is a REALLY good GM.

The flyers are one of the few teams in the east I don't mind rooting for if the Sabres are eliminated, along with the Isles.

If they don't win it all this year, they're screwed. Personally, I'd be shocked if they don't make it to the SCF again. They're just absolutely stacked.

Wow and to think a few years ago Philly was the worst team in the league. What a fast turn around this is. Versteeg is a very good player and for Philly who cares if you gave up a 1st rounder it will be so late in round 1 in won't matter much.

I'm impressed as well. What a quick turnaround this team has done from a few years ago. This team is stacked. My only question is still the goaltending.

Mine too, but I think that they feel that having a couple of good goalies that are high on playoff adrenaline is good enough. And they have diversified the money they have saved in goalies into having 3 solid defensive pairings. With that incredible blend of talent up front, they are REALLY tough to beat. But again, we all know what their weakness is, goal tending. And that's a scary weakness for Flyer fans.

But even if they don't win the Cup, they are amazing with the way they manage their cap, draft, sign, and trade. It's really only a matter of time, Holgrim is fixed on the Big Prize and I can't find a single error since he has taken over. I mean I REALLY want to laugh at the Flyers again, like I did when Clarke managed them, but I am forced to respect them now. Sucks. :(

Their is only a few teams I hate and they are Boston, Montreal and Toronto. I just can't stand the fact the their are a ton of Canadians and Leafs fans in HSBC. Can't stand that shit. But Boston is the team I can't stand I remember when I would go to the Aud and it seemed like their was a ton of Boston fans. Ton of fan fights. Most hockey people that I have met from Boston are plain idiots.

Yeah those Toronto fans are pretty annoying, it sucks that you guys are so close to Canada and have to deal with their shit all season.
