I wonder if Rafalski will give back the 6 m-m-m-million dollars Detroit has to pay him next season?

Rafalski hasn't even been playing all that long, 11 years. Seems a little early to retire, but then again it is a brutal sport. I couldn't even last a half a season. Good luck to both of them.

Detroit doesn't have to pay him anything. He's retiring. He doesn't get paid.

He might be talking about his salary counting against the cap, which it won't because he signed his contract with the Wings before the age of 35.

Nah that's my bad. I got mixed up on my cap/salary rules.

He's got 11 years in the NHL, but played 3-4 years in Europe after college. A full career for sure, but still surprised.

I always liked weight. Never had much of an opinion on Rafalski.

Rafalski is 37 so he's been around awhile.

I know. I was saying he is 37 so he's been around, alive and playing hockey for a long time.

Rafalski had a good season. Any word on why? I heard injury. Was it something big?

Nothing big, but he had knee and back injuries that held him to 63 games. He said he wanted to be healthy, so maybe one of those was a lingering problem that he got tired of.

That's a bullshit rule. It should count against the cap if the player doesn't retire due to a serious injury. All the Kovalchuk'eske contracts count on the fact that they will retire at some point.
