eklund, for all its worth, does have a very good grasp, in my opinion, on off ice things, though sometimes hes very far off. i do know that quebec wants a team back, and an arena is really the only thing stopping them. they have presented plans for a new arena, an ownership group met with bettman about a team.... the ducks are in a row. will it happen? i dont know. but this is one thing you cant chalk up to "being eklund" and dismiss.

This stuff has been reported on more than just eklund's blog. It's been all over tsn, cbc, nhl network...

I think the city of Quebec is going about this the right way interms of building a working relationship with the league as opposed to how Jimbo did with the whole "Make it 7" flop. Granted, it's a total political mask but man it would be sweet to see the Nords back in the league. Maybe even that logo they were about to unleash on the NHL the season after what was eventually their last. Here's a good question though, do the Avs own the Nord name/colors/logo? Or would they be able to be called that? Kinda like if the Jets come back to the league, they'd have to get the OK from the league/Yotes first?

Far too many Quebecois view the prospect of subsidizing a new arena as being a choice to redirect monies away from education, healthcare and infrastructure maintenance to the pockets of a billionaire corporate-welfare entity - Who MAY or MAY NOT get a team...

They love their Hockey, but not at the cost of more fundamental needs.

And they have no reason to believe Bettman will grant them due consideration, after the way he so willingly stripped them of a pre-existing team.

Can't blame them, there.

I believe Quebec's building plans and financing for the new arena are already drawn up and it's expected to be completed in 2012...am I missing something?

Don't think the arena is a "done deal", yet - There is widespread discontent at the proposed "financing" by the local and provincial taxpayers.

...and a grassroots movement to kaibosh the deal - Or, reduce the portion of public funding.

It is no secret that 32 teams is a magic number of sorts. The NHL would get 4-eight team divisions and the return of divisional playoffs that are a win/win for the league.

Are you KIDDING me?

The NHL would be best served contracting some clubs, and they want to add MORE teams?

Dumbest thing I've read all day.
