Almost feel bad for Dru.. too many injuries since he left us. Plus that contract just killed him. Way too much hype to live up to. Curious to see who'd pick him up, though. I really just hope we don't just to make amends for the old regime.

The guy had it made here. I don't feel sorry for the guy; hell how much did he make last year for 1 goal and 4 assists? I've never liked Drury and everyone from Sabres.com boards knows that so I was happy when this guy left. Our loaded line ups during the 1st 2 seasons after the lockout made him more Valuable than he actually was, just like Campbell. Plus the guys not "Captain Clutch" in the playoffs anymore.

I could see him in Detroit since they always go for an older cast or even a return back to the slumping Avalanche.

Oooh, so how did going to your ~childhood team~ work out for you, Chris?

And as soon as I saw that dumbass picture of Gomez and Drury posing in Rangers jerseys after free agency I knew it would be a mistake.

I'd gladly bring him back for 3 years while we groom a new Captain, guy was a winner here, say what you want, two straight ECF's with him as our captain...arguably the most clutch player in the history of our franchise, and a center we could desperately use.

Meh, I probably would have done the same thing. Not the posing though.

He's also the guy who dicked around the franchise about staying or going. If he would have just said 'Listen, I'm going to test the market', I would have been fine with them. He didn't. He sorta agreed to a deal, then changed his mind, then didn't communicate anything more.

Yes, LQ and friends take some heat on this too, but Drury is just as guilty IMO. Don't want him back. It's like pining over an ex.

Hard to believe it wasn't even four years ago when he signed that contract with New York. It seems so long ago now in some ways, but like it was just yesterday in other ways.

ive certainly moved on. i dont view chris drury as the "guy who dicked over the sabres" anymore, i view him as a useful hockey player who could help the team with his leadership and hard work. if people are truly over the situation, they wont use july 1 as a launching pad against him.

weve been saying for years how we are past it and to move on. well i say id like to show how weve moved on by bringing him back to improve the team.

The most clutch player in the history of the franchise? He was a Sabre for THREE YEARS and his Captain Clutch status was given to him based on two games: Game 1, EQF v OTT and Game 5, ESF v NYR.

My objection is from the fact that his skills are greatly diminished from when he was here. He's not even close to the same player. You're basically getting a slightly better Niedermayer, and that's not what this team needs right now.

his captain clutch status was sealed from his aves days. 11 playoff game winners in 4 seasons.

also, he had 3 game winners in the 07 playoffs alone.

Jay wasn't referencing his days as an Avalanche, he was directly referencing his days as a Sabre.

Besides, and this is a niggling detail, he was a never a captain in Denver.

Who cares what his nickname is. Call him Captain Insano if it gets you off.

Fact of the matter is he is a shell of his former self, and there's no WAY he would accept a 1 yr $1M contract to come back here unless that was his only NHL option. Even then it's a crapshoot.

I'm one of the "I won't mind seeing him back" people. Guys perform differently in different systems. Lindy's system hasn't really changed too much from the days Drury was here. If we were to sign him, I'd say test him out for a short term 1-2 year deal at 1.5M per with bonuses on making the playoffs etc...

I can't say I know what a locker room is like in hockey, but IMO it may be a great locker room booster to have those memories come back with Drury.

He is a different player, BUT, there's a chance I imagine that he'd play better with our system.
