http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=6706113 "With Western Conference teams Detroit, Nashville and Columbus hoping to be relocated to the East, the NHL has opted to realign the entire league rather than shifting Winnipeg, according to the Sporting News. The purveying plan seeks to divide the league into four divisions -- two with eight teams and two with seven teams. The plan will likely be finalized at December's Board of Governors meeting." |

maybe its just how exhausted i am.. but it would eliminate conferences? and do divisional playoffs, with the division winners being reseeded in the final four? |

Realignment is necessary, but this is like AA pro league shenanigans. |

Divisional playoffs is bush-league. Just move Nashville to the SE, Winnipeg to the NW, and Minnesota to the Central and be done with it. Or swap Winnipeg and Nashville, and get rid of the divisions altogether.. |

Wouldn't this give a statistical advantage to the teams in the 7 team divisions? Assuming the top 4 make it to the playoffs, the 7 team divisions would have less competition. =| |

Keep in mind we do not know where they Coyotes will be playing in 2012-2013. The NHL is giving them one more year to resolve all issues. If the Coyotes cannot resolve them, they will relocate to another city. Second, I would like to know where the NHL plans to be in 2021. I will say all 30 current franchises need to be financially and operatively stable. Then, the NHL must decide whether it wants to grow or contract. Many leagues like to grow, so they must decide which markets to expand or return to, add new teams, and balance the amount of teams in each conference/division. |

They haven't yet and it seems they aren't going to if Bettman has his way. No one knows if they will move either. Don't put a statement like that out there when the truth behind it isn't there. |

I don't like this 4 division stuff. I like it better when you play teams you really love to hate more often! |

I can see how the current situation could suck for Detroit and Columbus, but whatever... As long as the Sabres continue to play the Lightning twice IN Tampa, I'll be good |

Something needs to be done. A west coast team playing it's 3rd in 4 nights vs. a good club is a guaranteed fail(rut roh here comes some vague stats 'proving' me wrong). I know people want every team to play each other, but what's the point if you know they're going to get crushed because of fatigue. Stupid. |
