http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy Some of the article... Quote: Shea Weber(notes) won his arbitration case against the Nashville Predators, and won it big: He was awarded a $7.5 million, 1-year contract that'll give him the highest cap hit for a defenseman in the NHL and make him the fifth-highest paid defenseman in base salary. Tim Wharnsby of CBC Sports was first with the figure. The salary increases the Predators' payroll to $48.7 million according to Cap Geek. The NHL salary cap floor is $48.3 million. The Predators submitted a lowball proposal of $4.75 million, while Weber and his reps opted for an $8.5 million proposal. In NHL arbitration, the decision doesn't have to be one or the other; those proposals merely set the guidelines. $4.75 million? Are you freaking kidding me? I understand that Nashville isn't exactly a top-of-the-line market, but really? Not even $5 million? Whatever Predators fans that are out there can't be too pleased that he was lowballed that much, even in the... spirit (?) of arbitration. |

Yea that is a crazy offer. He might be one of the most valuable players in the league and he would have gotten paid Connolly money. |

I don't know, 7.5 seems a little higher than I expected. |

Niklas Lidstrom 4. Zdeno Chara 5. Dion Phanuef Shea Weber IMO is not a top 5 defenseman, but definitely a top 10. |

Dion Phaneuf is NOT top 5 anymore. That's definitely a joke. |

And Mike Green #1??? 1) Zdeno Chara 2) Nickolas Lidstrom 3) Duncan Keith 4) Shea Weber 5) Chris Pronger Phaneuf hasn't even been in my thought process since he got his monstrous contract from Calgary. |

1.) Keith 2.) Chara 3.) Pronger 4.) Lidstrom 5.) Weber IMO The main reason why i place Lids and Pronger ahead of Weber is their leadership and intimidation of the other team but in a few years Weber will be top 3 if he keeps progressing like he is. |

The best D-men in the NHL weren't making 7 mil last season. Only Campbell made over 7 mil, and we know he's not worth it. Weber is a top 5 d-man imo, and for a one year contract it's close to fair. Any multi-year deal for Weber would pan out closer to 6 or 6.5 mil per season, but Nashville couldn't get that deal done before the hearing. He'll likely end up on the trading block before next summer. Buffalo would probably have to send Vanek and another roster player to get him, but I doubt they'll be in the market for another big minute d-man. |

For now. i think schenn is going to turn into an extremely good defensemen. one of the best shut down d-men in the league with some offensive upside. and i LOVE myers. i think hes going to be an extremely good player. well above average offensively, well above average defensively. but i think weber is going to be better then myers even when myers is at the height of his game. thats just how good weber is, IMO. nothing wrong with that. |

Doughty is one of the best in the NHL also, top three in Norris voting his sophomore season was it? I'd say Weber should not be making 7.5 million, but I don't like D-men making that much. I would like my goal scorers making 7.5 million. He's beast indeed though. |
