Not a big surprise...glad we had him in Buffalo while he was still contributing at a high level.

Wow. Classy player. Wish he could have stayed the rest of his career here.

Sucks to have an injury, or injuries, end your career.

Looking at this as a fan of the game in general, he's had a great run and I wish him all the very best in his retirement. The Sabres side of me though, is flipping him the biggest bird ever known to mankind and say don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out. I've read some of the comments on WGR and TBN that make me want to pull my hair out. Sure, he was great when he was a Sabre and I thank him for his time with the organization. He gave us some great memories but the day he chose to leave Buffalo ended the man-crush for me.

It's funny, and before I get ripped for this, I'm in no way comparing Drury to Gretzky, but the other day I was watching the NHL Network and "The Day that Changed the Game" was on about when Gretzky was traded to the Kings. The Oilers were kind of in a funk and brooding because they didn't have Wayne and thought they lost because he wasn’t an Oiler anymore. Glenn Sather told the team after the game as the Kings were celebrating, "Look out there; there’s your good buddy celebrating after he just stuck it to you. Remember that..."

I don’t know, that quote comes to mind when thinking about the Drury situation, big time. To me, he stuck it to the fans. Sure, he was free to go where ever he liked. That is one of the wonders of free agency and he was within his right to review all avenues. But the whole situation stunk of him not wanting to stay in Buffalo and so many fans couldn't see it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; If I had to pick between either him or Briere to bring back to Buffalo, as many fits as he gives me on a nightly basis when the Sabres play the Flyers, I'd welcome Danny-boy back in a heart beat.

A great career when you think about it. Hobey Baker winner. NHL Rookie of the year. Stanley Cup champ. All-Star. Captain Clutch. Too bad it ended the way it did.

Good luck Chris.

Didn't want to go there in my post on HIS (Drury's) career, but Buffalo backed the wrong horse there no doubt. They paid the price too.

I don't think Sabres management backed either horse. They left the barn door open and then rounded up a couple of donkeys to replace them.

No they backed Drury really hard offering him that ridiculous contract. Drury chose the Rangers.

I cheered so loud when Drury put the U.S. up 3-2 vs Canada and it was really nice to see him embrace Ryan Miller the way he did after that game.
