Why should he get Keith/Seabrook/Lidstrom/Boyle/Chara/Weber type money for whatever years he chooses?? Kid is 21 and hasn't taken the team for a ride on his back anywhere important. If he's so intent on a 3 or so year contract instead of long term, he should be relatively happy with a 5.5-6.5 mil per type of deal. He's screwing up the organization's pay structure and putting a hold on the team's progress. Does he think he's friggin' Bobby Orr?

I personally think Dean Lombardi is an idiot. Just give Doughty what he wants because he is your best defense man with out a doubt.

He doesn't deserve that kind of money yet. He's had one great year, until he becomes consistent he can command that kind of money.

yeah, you don't want to have another Rob Blake type of situation. Then again, that was a different era and Blake had earned his stripes.

I actually intend to agree with you but you know other teams are salivating to get a guy like him.

couldnt we be saying the EXACT same things on tyler myers new contract?

its funny so many applaud myers new contract (myself included) but think doughty is a selfish prick for wanting to get paid, long term and hes "unproven" and all this other garbage.

That's not the point. Myers didn't hold out and turn his nose up at a MORE than generous offer.

One great year doesn't deserve earn the money.

Myers deal is a risky one too. I just have faith in him he'll live up to it.

I think Doughty should get a deal like Myers if anything. Maybe not that long though.

up to this point, doughty has been a better player then myers. the sabres rewarded myers on potential. to this point, myers has only been slightly above average. hes going to be awesome, but that contract was based on potential. now doughty wants a contract based on potential AND past success. i dont blame doughty for wanting to get paid, but i dont think hes handling it right.

I think Doughty's a stud with at least as much upside potential as Myers. I don't think Doughty is holding out because he's a prick. I think he's doing it because he wants to leave the Kings. There is something that is just not quite right in that organization right now.
