Ovie leaves the ice and hits Michalek in the head. No injury and no penalty.... Shanahan better review it and suspend him since he is a repeat offender.... I would give him 3 for it. |

No elbow, doesn't look intentional, but reckless leaving his feet. I'd say 3 games sounds good. Huge OV fan, but disappointed at this one. |

My opinion, leaving his feet is intentional enough. They all know not to leave their feet and I complain when Kaleta does it. Ovie has had way too many questionable hits and has been suspended twice for dirty shit. he is an amazing offensive player but he really doesn't give a shit about anyone else on the ice but himself |

Wow that was dirty. Looked like an intentional hit to the head. |

I think it was accidental, like when you get a slashing call, you accidentally get your stick up even though you know you shouldn't. Either way, it's reckless. Suspension deserved. |

True, either way a suspension is deserved, now lets see if Shanahan does it |

Yeah, the timing and force were fine by me...maybe even where he made contact. But jumping into the check was just dangerous and unnecessary. That's what puts it over the top. |

I agree with the above. It is definitely a 2-minute minor for charging, but I don't see where it's worthy of a suspension. It doesn't look at all like an elbow, or intentional head shot. |

Ference just got suspended 3 games for an unintentional, but reckless boarding. |

1) Left his feet. 2) Main point of contact was the head of Michalek. He will be suspended for this hit. |

I don't know about Michalek but he shouldn't really have much of a choice in Ovie's case. The guy is already deemed a repeat offender so he should get 2 or more. |

Anyone have a video of Michalek's hit? |

Yeah, seems to me Michalek could've slowed down at least or made it more legal than that. I still think Ovie should get more though, being a repeat offender and all. |

3 game suspension for Ovie.... Washington forward Alex Ovechkin has been suspended three games for a hit to the head of Pittsburgh's Zbynek Michalek during Sunday's Capitals-Penguins game. The incident happened early in the second period. Michalek had just moved the puck around the corner boards in his own zone when Ovechkin left his feet on a check in the corner and hit Michalek in the head area. Ovechkin was not penalized on the play. This is the third suspension of Ovechkin's career. He received a two-game suspension on Dec. 1, 2009 for a knee-on-knee hit to Carolina's Tim Gleason, and another two games on Mar. 15, 2010 for what the league called a "reckless" hit for boarding Chicago's Brian Campbell. Ovechkin will be able to return to action on Feb. 4, but will still be able to participate in this weekend's All-Star Game in Ottawa. |

Michalek's hit was far more dangerous than Ovi's, even though I agree with the Ovi suspension. |

It may have something to do with the previous history, I can't find anywhere that Michalek has ever been suspended. |
