This thread is dedicated to tracking the latest NHL updates, reports and rumors of the Islanders impending trade of Martin Biron...and willing Darcy to get a deal done that would bring our beloved Marty back home where he belongs!

Caveat: NO Hockey Buzz/Ekland reports will be tolerated!!

Islanders' goalies
I am told Rick DiPietro is a couple of weeks away from returning; once that happens, and if he stays healthy, the Islanders will move Martin Biron. The team is already getting calls for Biron and it shouldn't be hard to move him. His one-year, $1.4 million deal is easy to digest and he's a darn good goalie. This was the plan all along when Biron signed there in July, that he would be moved at some point if and when DiPietro recovered.

Hecht for Biron and Buffalo will even throw in Mancari :o
Of course we would want a 4th or 5th rounder from the Isles, No?

Carolina signed Legace yesterday to fill in for Ward. That's one more team out of the Marty sweepstakes!

With Martinek out, any package we can move to the Isles, for Biron, would be doubly sweet.

We could shed cap and snag a goalie, at the same time.

FYI: Biron has a $1.4 mil, one-year deal in place.

We just shed about $750k by waiving Mair...and with the Isles needing D, a solid UFA like Lydman is probably perfect trade bait.

That would give us

Tallinder - Myers
Montador - Rivet
Butler - Sekara on defense?

I think Tallinder would be more valuable at this point. He hasn't missed any time, and his play has been rejuvenated by Myers. I think we'd be looking at:

Butler-Rivet
Lydman-Myers
Sekera-Montador

I'd be OK with that, but only if the trade happens after Lydman is healthy again.

You are all smoking something if you think Marty would come back here to be a back up :obscene-smokingsombrero:

It's fun speculation, DC. I don't think he ever will, but I like to play around in this thread with the trade proposals and such.

I still doubt Marty would come back, he's going to go to a team with goaltending struggles.

They didn't shed anything with regards to Mair since he went unclaimed and is still on the roster.

And the the big thing with The Rick is this:

if he stays healthy

That's a HUGE if.
