Leaving the area; Dec 15th to be exact. Moving back down south. This job wasn't all it was cracked up to be, not challenging at all, though I did learn quite a bit just by volunteering to get into things that definitely weren't in my position description. There was also NO chance for advancement. I couldn't go to company paid for training unless it specifically applied to the contract I was working on (which I kind of understand, but the new company doesn't care what I get certified in, if it's technical and my passion, all it does is help increase their resume when bidding on new contracts). It was a good stop-gap off unemployment, gave a good enough paycheck to pay the bills, and helped my girlfriend see why I love living in an area with 4 seasons.
It makes sense that it was a bit awkward for you then. You're leaving because you feel that there's much better out there, therefore a 2 weeks notice in this case was also kind of like saying, "This isn't good enough for me." That's not an easy thing to throw at someone, even if it's extremely indirect like your case.
That said, sounds like you did get some good out of it. I'm a big time believer that everything happens for a reason, and I'm glad to hear you're taking some things away from it. Good luck.
