One of four that made it into the homeboy freezer.
Our deer season runs from September 1 through December 20th, and we are allowed one buck and four does'. I am also allowed four antelope and two elk a year! Plus the birds of course, which is why I have two freezers and rarely eat beef or chicken, while eating red meat or birds twice a day.
The only meat item I buy at the store is chicken wings!!
are they still doing chronic wasting disease sampling out there? we're wrapping up our last year of sampling here in NY, since the two confirmed cases in the mid-90's.
They still do it here, but there have been no confirmed cases in the area's I hunt (Way North). It does seem to still be spreading slowly, but my feeling is that they don't find as many cases as they used to. I need to check into it again, as I am almost to the point of looking for a new job. I took the job I have now over one in the southern part of the state, somewhat based on the CWD situation.
On a side note, i know it has been here since the eighties, as the Game and Fish took the heads of a few deer we killed in a special management hunt in the eighties. They didn't say a dam thing about it, other than they were doing a brain study on deer in that area. I found out ten years or so later that the area, Sybille Canyon, received elk from the Colorado game farm where it was first discovered.
Hopefully no more cases will crop up in NY, but I would appreciate any information you here of - PM me if you want to know more about what is going on out here.
