Lucky you - I wish I could get Time Warner's crappy DVR's to last that long. I'm on my third one in three years.

TiVo FTW

TWC gave me a DVR I didn't ask for and they started charging me for it. So I told them I didn't want the thing because I have TiVo's...so they said they'd stop charging me for the DVR, but I insisted they come and remove it from my house.

My TiVo's can do tricks that would make lesser DVR's blush.

Yeah, TiVo is a DVR... you can pay a monthly fee (I think $12) or you can buy a lifetime subscription for $300

It does more than just record shows though...It can:

- transfer shows between tivo's
- stop watching a show in 1 room and resume it in another
- transfer shows to computers for re-encoding to anything (iPod, PSP, whatever)
- burn shows to DVD
- listen to MP3's from any computer in the house on my stereo / TV
- browse the internet (play youtube videos etc.)
- display pictures or video stored on any computer of my house
- buy or rent movies from Amazon or Blockbuster as digital downloads (using only the tivo remote)
- record via season pass or wishlist with tons of options (ex: it records all Sabres and Bills programming for me via a keyword wishlist)
- Change the recording schedule remotely over the internet
- it has a ranking system and learns what you like and it will start automatically recording suggestions for you
- It has uber parental controls but I haven't played much with them yet

the list goes on....I've been a tivo owner for something like 7 years (I have 2 now and I've owned 4 total)...I love the dang things.

I'm still planning a small gathering - very laid back. Looks like Howie, MsRussell, ACL , Mr. Schony & myself.

Munchies, sweat pants and hockey.

Anyone else local, that wants in or changes their mind fb me or you know how to contact me ;)

I've been told that the 'lifetime subscription' only mean the lifetime of the box, not the person, so if you upgrade your Tivo or it breaks, you're out $$.

Is that true from your experience?
