i paid off a debt that was on my credit on sept.3.....that collection agency reported to equifax 4x between oct 3 and nov 3 that i paid off the debt....however, equifax has not removed it from my credit....

i just went to get a mortgage pre-approval from a bank that a owns foreclosed property i want to buy (i am approved through my own broker)....it's a totally killer deal that will help me get my finances straight too...

i was all excited, then i went to bank of america for the pre-approval and they won't approve me b/c there is this old debt on my credit report that i paid off !!!!

WHAT THE FUCK !! who governs these assholes ? they are allowed to fuck up people's financial lives because they can't do their fucking jobs ??????? they should be fined heavily for these types of actions !

i just spent 2 hours on the phone going through prompts and bullshit messages before i finally got a hold of a person at equifax...only for her to tell me she won't help me unless i pay $14/mo...i just went fucking ballistic on her.....i can't believe someone has not gone postal on a CRA yet.....actually i know it sounds bad but it might help the way these filthy CRA's do business.....

If there is a discrepancy on your reports, you need to request to remove it....in writing. They have to remove it, no cost to you.

I know that I pay truecredit $15/mo for monitoring. With that is free written disputes; I've disputed twice and won both times, each time taking less than 10 days to be resolved.

Credit is a game I don't play. I recommend that strategy to everyone.
A high credit score just means you love to carry debt and pay on time. It's meaningless.
I hate debt with a passion. I have 1 credit card with a $0 balance in case of emergencies, but besides that, I do everything on a cash basis.
A mortgage is the only thing I'd ever get a loan for.

Credit reporting agencies are not legally allowed to charge you to dispute information on your report.

I only had paid for credit monitoring for about 6 months before I applied for my mortgage, just so no surprises came up. Beyond that, I think it's an exploitative service.

You can get a free copy of all 3 of your credit reports once a year. I've never to check more than that.

I guess they didn't charge me to dispute. Just for the service. And the free report doesn't give you your score, just shows your accounts, I believe.

correct. it just shows your report. You need to pay to get your "credit score." If you keep an eye on your reports and how you use your credit, then you really don't need to know your score unless you plan on getting a loan or mortgage.
